Can someone help me with sizing? I resize image for gallery at under 250 k (as stated on gallery page) but mine is smaller than everyone else's. I save at around 250 k, 300 dpi.

Then in gallery I right click, copy url code and insert image into post but again, it is smaller than everyone else's.

Can someone tell me what sizing I need and am I inserting into a post the right way? Thx.

Most people set their pixel size at 600 x 600 at 72 dpi, which is the size you are most likely seeing in the threads.

Hmmm....tried 600x600 pixels at 72 dpi which was too big (as was 500x500) and wouldn't load. I had to resize down to about 285x285 at 72 (to keep it below 250 k) and it would load but was small again.

Any ideas?

After you resize your page to 600x600 at 72 dpi (and sharpen your image), look for a save for web option or it may be called jpg optimizer or something similar. This will allow you to keep your layout at the full 600x600 but compress it down to 250k or slightly less. Hope this helps.

I've been wondering what the optimal settings are, too, because mine is under 250, but saved at 650x650 it's definitely being compressed in TLP's gallery.

If you are on Photoshop try this, it is free and marvelous! Right here at The Lily Pad

I didn't know it was 250 here! :lol I have still been resizing to 150 everywhere.

LOL - I just realized a few weeks ago that most galleries have gone up to 250+. When I go to save for the web I always feel sorta naughty when I let the size go over 200K.

I am getting so frustrated. I just can't figure out what is going wrong. I tried to resize to 600x600 and it exceeded file size. I made it smaller and so again I was getting the smaller size image in the gallery, not the bigger size you all get.

I tried the "save to web" and changed sizing to 500x500 and it loaded fine, looked fine but then when I went to gallery page and opened the image it was blurry.

So then I downloaded the action (thx Anne) and again it looks fine when I initially load into gallery but when I exit gallery and go back to see my images, it is blurry. Here are my setting for the "save as web" part of the action.
jpeg, quality 100
optimized is checked
w=500 h=500 (600 was not accepted into gallery, exceeded file size)
quality=bicubic
percent=100

bottom left under screen shows info: jpeg, 324.6 K

I just can't figure this out. What the heck am I doing wrong? Thx everyone for trying to help. I sure hope we can figure this out....very frustrating. If you would like to have a look at my gallery, pls do so. "I'm Just Sitting" looks blurring to me and is still a smaller size (as are all my uploads).

It doesn't look blurry to me, it looks just like all the other pages. The web version is never going to be as good as your full size one, no matter how you resize it.

But you should be able to make 600x600 work, not sure why it isn't.

Seriously, though, they don't look blurry on my screen at all.

On save for web, I can put my quality down as far as 75 and it still looks good. I rarely save it at 100%.

This is where you should have 250 or less, I usually do this to 150 so I can upload to other galleries (dst, msa) and to change it, bring your quality down....

600x600 isn't the problem as I think most everyone uploads at those dimensions. It's the actual file size that's stopping you from uploading... 324.6k is too large. In your software app, resize to 600x600, sharpen your image and then compress it to 250k or less. You don't need to change the size to 500x500 as the file size will still be too large. I'm not familiar with Liz's photoshop action so I'm explaining the step by step process. When you do save for web the initial compression it shows may not be enough (i.e 324.6k) so you would need to adjust the slider to compress it more.. until you see the size is 250k or less... that's the one you want to save and use for uploading.

Whew...its working now. Thx everyone. For some reason it was showing blurring until I refreshed the screen. So I now have the resizing action (again, thx Anne) and am moving quality slider until it gets below 250 K (actually around 245) b/c if I get too close to 250 it rejects the upload (exceeds file size) even tho it isn't at 250...just really close. It is showing the larger viewing of image now. I hope this is the end of my uploading difficulties so I can get back to creating again LOL. Thx so much everyone for your help.
