sites closing - question

when a site closes, where do your layouts go??

gotta pixel the latest to close - never a chance to remove my personel layouts.

It probably depends on how the site is shut down, but overall, the content ceases being hosted by the provider, and is deleted off their server.

That said, if it's on the internet, there's no guarantee it will ever really be gone. Like when you can see the image on Pinterest, but when you click through to the link, it no longer exists.

some sites offer a way to capture your gallery - but i've only ever seen that a couple times.

I did read that the GP gallery is gone, and irretrievable. :(
sad to see another store close, but I totally understand, after I read her letter/facebook post last night.

Unfortunately at Gotta Pixel there was a Malware attack that embedded virus or something of that sort in the forum/gallery and the cost to continue to search where the "malware" was embedded was cost prohibitive for the owner. I hated that I lost my layouts but what I hate more is that someone out there thinks it is OK to attack a business by using Malware/Viruses that could cause a business to shut down.

As much as my layouts are gone; I think of the owner (Stacy) that has lost income as well as those designers that are having to look for new homes (most of the designers was selling at another store but not all) as well as the time spent for them to "repackage" their goods.

It's a huge bummer when your favorite community closes or changes. I started archiving my layouts on my SmugMug account because I've lost galleries when 1. a store changed it's gallery; 2. designer left and admin deleted layouts b/c they no longer met store requirements; 3. open gallery closed x3; 4. store closed. When the last Polly call came out, I had to scramble a little because I no longer have a "complete" gallery of my work. By the time layouts get printed for the scrapbook, they sometimes changed or get merged with other layouts. Or perhaps a CT or challenge layout was just for fun/art and never got printed. It's buried deep in the mess of hard drives on my desk, never to see the light of day.

Thanks for sharing that. I saw the message on FB but I'm not part of the community so I didn't know why they lost the forum/gallery. That's terrible!!!

It's always sad to see a store close. I've gone through a couple, and it's hard.

@Cath_ I keep a personal blog and have my images there, back from when I started creating digital layouts. My Carefully Crafted Story

In addition, I use Pinterest and have a board for my My Digital Creations.

I also use Flickr and keep my layouts by month in albums: Flickr Albums

A blog, Pinterest, Flickr or another photo hosting site might be something that would help you keep all your layouts in one spot.

I hope you find something that works for you!

Long ago, when I was a hoarder of all designers, fighting and vying for a spot on their teams, having a complete collection somewhere seemed important. Although I am now on the best team in scrapland (in my never to be humble opinion), I stopped worrying about having those pages out there. As a matter of fact, I just asked for my membership and account at DST to be deleted as much as they are able to make happen.
My reasons for a complete low resolution 600x600 gallery are not there anymore. I am a die hard Polly! lol

I don't have layouts anywhere since coming to pad, but wished i had, had time to save out ones i knew i lost pics from, or delete my real personel ones

I post all of my layouts in an album on Facebook. Some are downright primitive, but I took the time to make them. So, they're there.

I saw that yesterday... I have a free acct at dst just to post CT pages... I thought you were disgusted with them since their gallery has been down for almost a month!

@Cath_ I know you are missing your layouts. I'm sorry about that... but I had an idea. What about if you set up a free Flickr account for your own benefit? FLICKR This way you are not dependent on a store for your treasured or lost photos.

From what I understand, I don't think anyone knew that the gallery and forum would be going down, or everything would be lost. I think there was malware or a virus that affected both, and they were unable to restore so that it wouldn't cause others issues.

Hugs.

I feel so bad for GP. That is a terrible thing to happen, forcing a closing since the cost is too high to fix. I don't understand what is wrong with someone using malicious malware like that. I store my pages in smugmug and then when I can, I get albums created. I've started keeping them on pinterest too.
