Shingles

Your poor mom :( hopefully now that the blisters are popping that will help alleviate the pain and discomfort. I know it sounds horrible and will probably make each of you feel bad, but maybe wear a mask and gloves when you go see her, hopefully that will help protect you a bit.

My nephew had it when he was 12. He was misdiagnosed at first because the children's hospital just wasn't used to seeing it. It's an "old person" disease! I guess what happened is that for a while, kids were getting vaccinated against the chickenpox once. But what they found is that those kids who only got the one shot weren't getting chickenpox when they were in pre-school, but were coming up with shingles in high school. They have now switched to giving kids two doses of the vaccine, and that has solved the problem. Is this similar to what happened to your son?
No. He was the last generation before the chicken pox shot (he was born in 1991)so that shot was never offered to him , but he did have chicken pox at about 10 years old. His baby brother, born in 2004, was the 1st of my kids to get the chicken pox shot.
