Okay, so I love Salem MA. One of my favorite places there is the Old Burying Point cemetery. The art of the stones is very cool and pretty. Plus, I'm a history buff. So I want to do a page on it, but I am afraid of it feeling flippant. How do I capture this memory while still being respectful? Same goes for my photos from the witch trials memorial.

I would so love to see LOs people have done on serious topics, historical or not.

You could go with a clean style for the photos and then let your journaling set the tone of the page. If you give some of the history and talk about why these things capture your attention and what you find interesting about them I don't think it will seem flippant at all.

I'd love to see some example pages too. We took a recent trip to Savannah so I have some similar things to scrap.

Ama, Here is an example of one weird thing I did of the Amityville Horror House in Amityville NY.... maybe this will help with your "weird stuff" (Although I do not think the salem witch stuff is weird but fascinating and can't wait to see your page!! :) Hope this helps...

I agree with Ashley. I love minimalist pages for these more serious historical items. Although I really thing you can set the mood with any style. Your mindset will come through as you scrap.

Haunting page, Christa. Love it for that subject.

I have a sort of similar problem. We took tons of photos of the Mexican Cemetery in Xcaret. Its a real cemetery which spirals up a hill with levels and steps representing the calendar. The grave markers are fantastic, beautiful and sometimes I'm sure are tongue in cheek. Like a few made from beer or tequila bottles.. I do want to scrap them respectfully though. Haven't quite figured out how yet, but I am working on a general theme from the Memory Motivators scrap your vacation.

I thought of this page I made. Not such a dark subject matter but I did want to be respectful to the artists and their mission (recreating a Viking-style rune stone) and not to have the page itself distract from that.

Not historical at all, but not sunshine and flowers, either.. Simple but still contains all the information you need..

Here are a couple from the Key West Cemetary... they are a bit silly in places because that place had it's silly bits too.

Also I did these from when we went to Mexico and visited a ceremonial ball court where the winner was immediately killed and they believed went straight to the Gods:

Go very magazine look alike. Clean, light colors with emphasis on white and black.

ohh you reminded me of the tones of photos I have from Finchely Cemetrery here,....I have some American friends that every tine they came over, we would go to the cemetreies to take pictures, the art in the old graves ios awesome...and yes, simple and clean maybe the way to go...
