School summer break

Today is the first day of our summer holidays! So far we have been to the park, walked the dog and tidied the playroom (I'm expecting it to stay tidy for all of half an hour :lol)

For those of you in the northern hemisphere, are your kids still on summer break? I know some of my US pals are getting ready to send their children back to school next week, it's so strange to me that we have just finished school and they are just starting again!
 
Yep, my kids are still on summer vacation. They go back September 6th this year which is a little late for us. We usually go back the week before Labor day instead of the day after.

I can't believe your kids are just now finishing school. How long is your break?
 
Mine start back on the 8th. I'm a little sad this year because my baby starts kindergarten.
 
We homeschool (mostly year round). We normally take all of June off and start back at the beginning of July and allow for frequent breaks during the other 11 months. This year however we didn't get DD's test until the middle of June so we took a month and a half off and are starting back Monday...having never had more than a month off it's been driving DD batty...she was begging me last week to start back (believe me this attitude will change after a week of school..lol). I'm definitely ready for a little more structure to our days...and I'm guessing DD is as well.

How long do your kids summer break last? Is it shorter than the typical 2-2.5 months here in the states?

Yes, it's much shorter. They go back at the start of September so they have just over 5 weeks off, then a few one and two week breaks at other times of the year. The last couple of weeks at school have been really busy so I think we are all just trying to relax and recover a bit now!
 
My SS's last day of school was during the first week of June. He goes back to school on my DD's 2nd birthday (which is August 17th). :)

He definitely needs structure back in his life! He would never admit it, but he is pretty bored with hanging out, riding his bike, playing outside, and going to the pool to swim.
 
We go back on Aug 22nd, I think our break is about 10 weeks. It was longer when I was a kid but I could really use their structure back! :rofl These guys go to camp, so they have some sort of routine but not really. They're actually home today since I'm working at home...yeah, they're driving me bat crazy :dizzy
 
It seems strange to me that your kids are just now going on summer break! How long do they have off?

We're gearing up for B's first school experience. He starts August 11th. He's thrilled...it's all he can talk about, and I'm a bit sad. :( Just doesn't seem possible that my baby is old enough for pre-school. It eases my sadness a bit knowing that it's only 3 days a week.

We are gearing down as well. Bugga starts Kindergarten on 10 August and I confess I'm rather dreading it...only in the emotional "my baby is going to school" kind of way. But I'm excited for her too. Sigh...parenthood. LOL!
 
In our part of Germany we also started summer holidays this thursday!
My children have to go back to school on September 13th!
 
My oldest starts 1st grade on Aug. 22 and she's been out since the beginning of May. We are all ready for school to start lol. This year I also have one in Pre-K and Preschool. So it'll be kind of weird at my house only having one kid at home full time.
 
our kids go back on aug 17th. we've already started working back toward school shedules. starting tonight we're moving bedtime up to 9:30... then next week will be 9:00 then 8:30. all of this also means practicing getting up earlier... not my favorite part for sure!
