I am in the process of backing up all my digi goodies to an external HD and online. I have always saved my zip files as backups - even after unzipping. I realize that I essentially have everything twice and with my new backups, six times!

Does anyone else feel compelled to save the zip files? Is there any reason I shouldn't just delete them?

Thanks! :)

I'm with you - I save my zips "just in case" but I have to wonder if its just a complete waste of time ........

i always delete my zips right after i unzip. i don't see any real reason to keep them.

I'm a keeper too. There's been more than once that I'm happy to have the zips (accidentally deleting a folder, etc). But I'm also, by nature, really incapable of a good purge so I keep way more than I probably need to. LOL.

i'll be right over, sara, to help you purge! i'm good and hitting delete FOR-EVAH!

Hmm... maybe I will burn them onto a DVD and then delete. So I know they are there somewhere, but not taking up space on my HD. I also have a hard time getting rid of things. "But what if I need it five years from now?!"

I don't keep them. I'm a purger at heart. I have heard from quite a few techy people that zip files tend to go corrupt as they sit anyways.

I delete the zip files right away also. I have all my kits backed up to 2 EHD though and I feel confident in that system. It's been working for me for lots of years now.

I am a saver at heart, but I delete Zips immediately after I unzip them. No reason to keep them if you're already backing up your files.

I back my kits up to my EHD, and I immediately delete the zips. I've always heard that they corrupt easily.

I have a folder of all my zip files, but like Kellie said..they can corrupt. That's the only reason why I am hesitant to keep them..but at the same time, what if I accidentally delete or save over something. I can just get unzip again and everything is reset.

what she said^^^ plus they are a huge drain on those precious GB. the more you delete the more room you have for new stuffs!:dancebun

I delete the zip files as soon as I unzip them. No need to save them if you're already backing up. They just take up space on the HD.

You know what I've noticed? When I download zips with my Mac they are automatically unzipped and the zips get the toss. So it's good for an adverse-to-purging girl like me. Woot!

I *do* back up so I don't know why I have historically kept them all. LOL!
