S/O: "Great layout!" comments

I try to be specific when commenting but sometimes I just know I like the page. I can't quite put my finger on it so I'll just say great job! I really mean it and I want to leave a comment because I genuinely like the page. I'm hoping people take it as genuine.

I really think they do, Roni! ♥ Especially here at The Pad.

Ultimately, I think, if a person felt pulled to my page enough to click on it and comment that it is a genuine expression of praise. Not everyone is a Wordy McGee (like I am), not everyone speaks English as their primary language. And sometimes we just can't find the words or we aren't in the mood to "gush.

I'd hate for anyone to feel like their comments aren't "right". There's no such thing as "right" in scrapping or in commenting, IMO. :beat

I also think it is sometimes hard to know what to say if everyone else who has commented has already said what you want to say. I always struggle with that... do I say what everyone else just said in the comments above? Is that going to look cheesy and like it isn't sincere? Or like Roni said, you might not really be able to put your finger on why you like it, but you think it is great. All such interesting things to think about. I really like to find layouts that don't have any love and leave some so every page might get some attention. Obviously I can't find every one, but if I have time, I like to scroll around just to see what is out there and who might have posted at a busy time and got bumped from the front page and under-appreciated.

This whole digi community is so interesting to me.

I generally try to reciprocate if someone leaves me a comment. Those to me, can sometimes be the hardest because I don't want it to sound like I'm just leaving a comment because they commented on mine. It also blows me away to think that people copy/paste comments. I guess I'd never thought of it before because I don't really hang out in the big galleries, but getting a high post count doesn't seem like a good reason to do that. I generally don't really think about why someone left a comment, but now my mind is just a buzz. LOL.

But I totally understand what you are saying about having your favorite layouts get the *cricket* treatment and others that you don't care about as much get more attention. It is so weird. That is why, when my DD and I were making arts/crafts to sell, we'd always hang on to something we didn't really like so much because we figured that someone might have that be their favorite thing ever.

Very interesting discussion. Call me naive but I had no idea there were "Gallery Hos" out there! I guess I'm a pretty optimistic person, trying not to drum up drama for myself or others so I assume that all comments are sincere. If someone is out there wasting precious time copying and pasting insincere, generic comments that's their problem, not mine.
I think I had a lot of practice dealing with the judgment of the masses when I entered my photos in online contests years ago. Those competitions make this community look like the land of Oz, minus the Wicked Witch. If you have trouble hearing crickets, do what I do: assume everyone was off running errands that day. :)
As others have said, I do not make these layouts for TLP, I make them to document the things I care about. That said, I wonder if there has been or will be some kind of CC forum where someone could post layouts for critique or suggestions for improvement. There are times I'm stuck and wish I had someone with more experience who might give me some feedback.

If its someone from a non-english speaking place I try to give them benefit of doubt on meaning it.
What I don't like is people who leave a "oh this looks so sweet and happy" when its a page about something depressing.

Yes totally! or "Lovely Extraction" when there isn't one -or- "Great scene" when it's a traditional layout, lol - I can't say that happens here at TLP though - thankfully!

I agree that sometimes there is a layout I love that I can't quite put a finger on what exactly makes is so appealing...maybe it's everything or maybe it's nothing specific and Great LO fits, although I generally make it longer... but Great job or great comment work just fine too!

I am happy with any comment too Kellie and I know sometimes I too am surprised by which layout gets the most views or comments in relation to something that I'm especially proud of that is not noticed at all, but I am scrapping for my family and they are the ones that really matter in the end. Of course a sweet comment feels awesome!

I agree that a lot of times it depends on the person or what gallery it is at. I know a few times at DST and DSA, I've gotten a ton of comments at once when I've uploaded several pages, and it turned out that it was one person putting "great page" and nothing more onto every one of my pages. That makes me think it was copy and paste. LOL. It didn't bother me, but it didn't strike me as super genuine either. I do love to get comments, and if someone wants to put a comment (any comment), that makes me happy :)
