The 16 year old and I are headed out road trippin' this morning! :driving We are headed to the beach for the week. DH couldn't go last minute because he could potentially have a couple of job interviews coming up, so it's just the two of us. On our last road trip, we tried playing the alphabet game that I used to play growing up but with the highways being more built up these days, we zoomed through the whole alphabet in like 5 miles :giggle. When DH is with us, he keeps us laughing because he will pick random cars and make up stories about the people in those cars, and they are hilarious.

So I'm wondering, any ideas to help just the two of us pass the time? We have a 5.5-6 hour drive. I'll have him check back in here while we're on the road :)

Have fun Jan!!! I'm not super creative when it comes to passing time on road trips. We've gotten in the habit of just listening to music.

Years ago when I had to go 21 miles on interstate to get to work, I would look out for U-Haul's to see what state was on them or cities on the smaller trailers you pull behind your vehicle. Actually I was always on the lookout for my town... it is on one. Many former residents will post pictures when they see one on a FB group about the town.

I would write them down on a list and I think I had seen about 30 of the 50 states just traveling back and forth to work over a 3 year period.

A new one we tried recently was the alphabet game but with things instead of words/signs. So for A, you’d have to see an apple or an airplane. It was more challenging than I thought! Safe travels!

We usually listen to music. Podcasts and audiobooks are good, too, especially for a smaller group where you're more likely to agree on something. Many libraries have audiobooks you can download using the Libby app--all you need is a library card.

That's cool! I may suggest that to DS on our way home!

We talked about podcasts and audio books, but we couldn't agree on a thing. He turned on one and I just totally zoned out. I couldn't tell you one thing the guy talked about.

Oooh that's a great idea!! We may try that on the way home!!

I always love a good "99 bottles of beer on the wall, 99 bottles of beer, take one down, pass it around, 98 bottles of beer on the wall..." lolol.

I usually listen music or a podcast. :) Hopefully a 5-6 hour trip shouldn't make the music drive you up a wall. Sometimes it just becomes too much!

Have fun this week and safe travels home!

Enjoy your break. Sorry not much to add for your way home , a silly game is question and answer like - If I was a pen what would I write ? if I was blue ( the colour ) where could I hide ? - 6 hours straight in a car would drive me nuts :driving

The only thing about 99 bottles of beer is it puts me to sleep! I have been known to think it if I can't get to sleep because of the brain working OT. Also, way back in the dark ages of high school, we would start singing it on the band bus coming home from away football games. I don't know if we ever got to 80 bottles... There would be a few people that would fall asleep and people would just stop participating.

LOL ... we used to sing "99 bottles of beer" when riding the school bus to and from field trips.

Jan what beach are you at? My family vacations at Ocean City, MD.

Ohh that sounds fun!!
I don't mind 6 hours too much. When we had to do 10 hours regularly to get to my in-laws in IN, I about lost my mind.
