My DH and kids are leaving for California tomorrow by car (16-18 hours from here)
and I want to put together a little bag/backpack for my 4 year. I've obviously procrastinated- ack!!!!

I thought you all could maybe help me out and point me in the right direction for printable games or projects i could make to keep her busy and happy in the car????

lmk! I need to do it today!!!

(oh, and ya, I'll be kidless and DHless for 4 days-woooohoooo!!! First time EVER!)

not a game but a portable dvd player and redbox movies, my 6 yr old loved that on our road trip this summer

We always take the easy way out too and do movies. We also used to have a basket that he could reach into filled with coloring books, books, and toys. And snacks are a must. I put a bunch in a big container and pass them back whenever he gets hungry.

Games -

Seek and Find - Find a yellow sign, find something green, etc...
I Spy - someone thinks of something and then everyone else asks questions to try and guess what it is.

Have fun and good luck!

We do an 18 hour trip to upstate New York all the time. Good luck on your drive and whoo hoo for being childless for a little while.

The library here has books with tapes. So you can put the tape in and it will read the book and your child can turn the pages. That was always popular for little ones when we didn't have a DVD player. Also strangely enough things like matchbox cars were good. And then coloring things are good. We usually used pencils cause they are harder to color on other things with. But those color wonder things are good too for that.

Then we always have plenty of snacks and things to drink on hand. Nothing like a thirsty child in the car to make everyone miserable.

HTH

we always do i spy type games-- granted, weve not driven quite as far LOL. 7 hrs is my max in the car alone with ce. longer and i t hink id stab myself in the eye hahaha. our last drive we did it abc style..... looking @ signs etc for the letters..kept him happy. those i spy games can last forever
