Okay ladies, my creative part of my brain is in overdrive, and I think I'm gonna give my hubby heart failure if I unload all of this on him.

Here's the scoop... I think I've spent WAY too much time browsing on Pinterest, and I like SERIOUSLY want to revamp our decor in our home. For starters, what we had in Ohio just doesn't seem to fit quite right with what we need here. I can force it to work, which I am doing, but I don't LOVE it. Does that make sense?

Plus some of the stuff I've had for several years, and it is so hodge podgy and not my style anymore. A lot of it I can piece together and use it anyway, but some of it's just got to go.

Plus I have some pretty bold ideas for things I would LOVE to do, but he is just not a bold design person. He is a clean and simple and basic kind of guy. I know he would like it when it was all said & done, but getting him to buy into STARTING is the issue.

*Sigh* Any advice? Maybe ways I can ease into this or do it bit by bit? Right now I feel like I could just go to town on all kinds of fun goodness! Somebody stop me!! *lol*

My best advice here is that paint is cheap! Wall color is the obvious thing of course, but you can really change your furniture pieces - and even accessories - with some paint. One of my very dear IRL is the queen of spray paint. She repaints accessories regularly and I can't believe what a difference it makes. Maybe you can start with a new, fresh palette and go from there?

I noticed you've been on a Pinterest binge lately...LOL. Inspiring but dangerous, right?! I always end up at Michael's or Hobby Lobby after an evening on Pinterest buying stuff for a new must-do project!

I think Laura's advice is good. A fresh coat of paint can spruce up any decor. And, when he sees what a big difference that makes, it'll be easier to coax him into giving you your true hearts desires...

Yes, BINGE might be a good word for it. :giggle I think that's what got me started last night on this whole kick to redo EVERYTHING! *lol* SOOO inspiring, but hard to mesh what I really like with what I have to work with! *sigh*

I do have plans to paint a few different things, besides the walls. I'm going to repaint the dining room chairs and a book shelf for sure. Also have a bunch of frames I think I'll redo. We'll see how that works for a start.

Baby steps. That's the key... otherwise if I installed window seats, panneled walls, and got all new chairs and sofas he may just shut down! :rofl

Oh gosh Rebecca, are we sooooo in the same boat right now... We are in the process of moving into a new home, which is about 5 years old, so it's pretty up to date. Although, the entire house was painted white inside... can you say boring! (And yes, Pinterest has been my inspiration too, it's amazing the ideas you can find there.) I've also done alot of googling of interior design. Oh, and my hubby too is so not into the whole decorating thing, although as we move forward he shows excitement in the final product. And this is the same guy, that just learned that "Yes, a bathroom does need a theme!" Heeee! Heeee!

Anyhow, here are a few suggestions to make your planning easier. First, I would pick a room, and have at it!(And once that room is complete, your hubby may then see how a few changes can really make a big difference. This was a huge eye-opener for my hubby.) We've painted four rooms and I've worked on the decor each day, by each stop at the store or by shoppin' on-line(It's soooooo fun!) For the master bedroom and bathroom, I chose the comforter set, and then chose the paint colors out of that. Then I choose what kind of decor to go with, such bronze, silver, black, white, weathered etc. and went from there, buying pieces here and there. It's all coming together nicely.

With the living room, I started with the paint colors. We plan to buy a new sectional and end tables/coffee tables, so we'll purchase those to go with the painted room/oak wood-work. And the decor in here, we are going with a modern metal kind of theme.

So, I say jump right in, starting with one room at a time! And show your hubby what you can do!!! And most importantly, have fun!!! And please do check back in, I'd luv to see the end results! :-)

Well yesterday morning we went out on a breakfast date, and I sort of eased him into the idea. I basically explained to him that, while yes we have a very nice house, there is nothing that makes our 2-story 4-bed 2.5 bath stand out from anyone else's with exactly the same specs. This area is just SO full of cookie-cutter houses. And SO many new or almost-new ones on the market that we really don't have any edge if we had to sell again, which is a pretty decent possibility (although hopefully not soon).

So I told him about pinterest & finding ideas I love & how I thought that a lot of them could be translated into our home for not-so-much money. The end result would be something that people can really remember - something they WANT to buy over other houses. THAT was something he could understand. And he was totally for it.

So as long as I move forward in small dollar amounts - a little at a time like you said Laurie - I think I've got the go-ahead. The real trouble will come when it comes to wanting to get new bigger pieces of furniture like sitting room chairs, etc. But I think that getting the basement finished will make that easier because the furniture we already have will go to furnishing the basement, and we can get new in the rooms on the main floor. In theory anyway. We'll see.

Project #1 is to repaint the dining room chairs. I bought a few cans of spray paint yesterday. Now it just needs to stop raining.

Sounds fun, Rebecca. I'm currently obsessing over re-doing our bedroom. So far I'm just overwhelmed and don't know where to start, but I'm determined to decide and get it done this summer.

I'm redecorating my whole house. I don't know how long i'll take but i'm taking baby steps. :) I need to get rid of a lot of junk i've collected over the years.:) I want a clutter free house. Painting walls and furniture is a great idea. I plan to paint dd's bookcase and few frames.

So happy to hear the hubby is on board Rebecca! Woooo! Whooo! So how are you coming on things? Isn't it fun to see the finished product... such a pleasure hey?!!! :-)

I'm doing pretty well on my redecorating projects.... I'll be back with some pics this weekend.

Hey girls... I'm finally back with some pics to share of our move and painting & redecorating of our new home. We moved from the city to the country, to a home nestled deep in the woods... It's very beautiful and peaceful...

This is our living room after we painted it, keeping in mind that this home was painted all off-white inside(every room! Uggghhh!).

Here is our family room right after the move... full of piles!

And this is what it looks like now... I'm slowing purchasing small decorative items for the walls and shelves. (One of my favorite stores for this is Hobby Lobby.)

And a view of the family room from the other side of the room.

This is a pic of our boys enjoying our new bedroom. I went from a pink and sage bedroom, in our other home, to a green and gray in our new home. I soooo luv the change and so do the boys! :-)

Here is peak into our kitchen from the family room.

Here is our driveway, in which my daughter is enjoying a 4-wheeler ride down.

We added a hammock... because what would living in the country be without one. :-) This is my Emma and our puppy dog Missy relaxing...

And finally... this is my girl enjoying the sunset in the hammock.

We of course, are still unpacking and I still have rooms to paint... but we take it day-by-day and enjoy the satisfaction of completing the things we do. It really is amazing how we've transformed this house into ours...

Wow, Laurie, that hamock looks so relaxing!!! Love that last picture!

Rebecca, I am so glad you got the go ahead for some projects! Sometimes just small changes make a big difference. We have been in our current house for about 10 months & I keep looking around thinking I need to find some time for a few projects....especially after I have spent time browsing through all the great spaces on Pinterest!
