So, my daughter had a mouth ulcer that was pretty painful and the Pharmacist told me to make a mouthwash of equal parts Mylanta and children's liquid Benadryl for her to swish with (NOT SWALLOW). It doesn't treat the ulcer but it helps so much with the pain. Sounded weird, but really worked.

What about y'all? Any crazy remedies that work for you?

The Chinese remedy, gargle with salt water. And if you want an express healing, rub the salt on the ulcer!! YES!! that's what I do all the time..

When my son was teething, he was the biggest drooler, ever. He had/has eczema too and the result was a nasty, scaly rash of sorts all over his chin. The dr told us to buy a tube of original chapstick, the black and white kind, and smear it all over his mouth and chin a few times a day, especially before bed and naps. Worked like a charm! Rash went away. The chapstick made a barrior the drool couldn't penetrate lol. We still use it when we have colds, just on our noses. I buy a new tube if someone is constantly blowing their nose and they just rub it all over and it keeps the nose from chapping from all those tissues. I toss it after though, because who wants to accidentally use nose chapstick on their lips?!

Another tip I loved was using liquid Mylanta on bad diaper rash, a pillow UNDER one end the crib mattress when he was congested or his reflux was particularly bad and alum for cold and canker sores.

When my youngest is coughing really badly at night, I put Vick's Vapor Rub on the bottoms of his feet (and then socks on) and it seems to help keep the coughing down. It doesn't stop it altogether, but it lessens it.

We have done the mylanta+Benadryl for steep throat pain too. Tastes funny but works like a charm to numb the pain!

Mine is not a remedy as much as a tip - I keep a dark red washcloth with our first aid kit. That way if one of the kids is bleeding, they don't see it on the cloth and are not nearly as panicky so we can see what they need. (Mostly scraped knees and elbows around here, but it also goes in the bag when we go on vacation!)

That is genius!!! My youngest has needed stitches twice this year and all our washcloths are white - yikes!!

The docs here call that combo Magic Mouthwash. :)

LOVE the red washcloth idea!

We do that too! When my son was younger he would get massive nose bleeds and it about made ME sick to see. Blah.

Yep! It really does work! I think the salt just kills anything in and around the ulcer, LOL. My mom used to suggest it. Now we use essential oils to gargle when we have canker sores.

my favorite homemade remedy when my kids were babies was to mix boric acid and cornstarch together for their baby powder. That stuff will clear up a diaper rash like a champ!! waaaayyyy better than rash creams and expensive powders.
