I have a waterproof purple North Face rain jacket that I have loved. But on our recent trip to Walt Disney World, it failed me miserably. I was incredibly wet under my rain jacket, things in my zipped up pockets were wet, and it just felt like the jacket was absorbing water instead of repelling it.

I am fairly certain the waterproof has just stopped working as well over time and I am ready to replace it. What kind of rain jacket do you have? What do you like and dislike about it?

I got this one last summer before going to Ireland. Lots of colors, very lightweight material and has lots of good pockets. I wore it this weekend on a rainy walk and I also wore it two weekends ago when it was pouring out - we were at a Crew Regatta and it kept me very dry even without an umbrella.

We all bought the hooded rain ponchos there (at Disney). We took cheaper rain ponchos and THEY failed us miserably. The ponchos they sell there really work. Mine's hanging in my closet if I ever need complete coverage again. I have some funny pictures of all of us in our Disney ponchos. It rained buckets the first half day we were there!

They do work pretty well! Especially if my husband is wearing a backpack because it covers the backpack AND him! I want to get a jacket though, because I don't want to wear a Disney poncho everywhere :giggle

I have a Columbia rain jacket that I've had for about 20 years and it's STILL totally waterproof! I love that thing!

Here's a layout with a picture of my jacket... upper right corner:

I have a very old Woolwich yellow slicker that I got at the Gilroy CA outlets! 2001 I think. But it is slicker yellow and can be hot even though it does have ventilation holes in the armpits. DH can always find me when we're out traveling - except here in Annapolis where all the boaters have yellow slickers!

@jenn macabre -what color did you get? I think I'm going to get one and wondering if I can bring myself to go beyond my usually black!

I got the Flint Grey - it's a very light "color". I love it! But not too exciting as far as colors go. It's barely a color, but goes with everything. The blue and the cypress are nice too!

True. I wouldn't wear it everywhere, either. I probably "spaced" and thought the conversation was about being at Disney. :rollin:rofl

I have 2 Columbia jackets. One is 'resistant' which means I still get wet but is great for wind and my other one is waterproof. I too bought the latter to take to Ireland and I stayed nice and dry.

I have no suggestions. Rain is foreign here, so we dance in it when it comes. For Disney, I had a regular store jacket with the water resistant covering. I really like the one Jenn posted! It's awesome!

DD & I have waterproof jackets by a company called Trespass (i found them here on amazon but i didn't buy them ) from there - i can't remember which styles they are and they're about 18 months old so maybe they're not even selling those styles anymore, but hers is hot pink and has fleecy lining and mine is sky blue with pink trim bits and more a mesh lining - she's worn hers more often in the rain than me (mine is just a pack in case of rain one and i dont think i've actually had to use it as such) but i don't think it's been tested in torrential conditions (it was meant to rain here today but, look, sun!) but should hold off more than a disney poncho, (hopefully they're better made than the legoland ones too)

I had a hot pink and blue lightweight jacket for almost 40 years. Didn't cost much either when I got it because I never bought expensive stuff... couldn't afford it! It has disappeared in recent months. I've been purging so much stuff I have a feeling it got thrown out in the trash because the last time I wore it, I got soaked. I have a good full length raincoat with a liner if I ever need a dressy one so I didn't want to buy another expensive one. So I checked Wal-Mart... no summer weight raincoats at all.

So I went to my backup place for coats. Blair.com. I have ordered a Totes brand jacket. It is lightweight, has a removable hood and perfect for just running errands. Not expensive either :)
