I have a few questions on Rad Lab and I know a chunk of you chicks have it. I got confused on their website and gave up. :dizzy

I have PSE. I can't tell from their site, for sure, if Rad Lab is compatible. I saw somewhere on the site mention of using PSE with it, but then I saw another area that seemed to go against that.

You buy Rad Lab first - does it come with actions? Or do you have to buy actions right off the bat as well?

I had to uninstall Lightroom b/c my laptop was giving me fits and I am missing it so much for photo editing. I'm thinking of begging for Rad Lab for my birthday.

I don't have rad lab but do have a bunch of their actions and the textures player. Can't say if its compatible with PSE...don't know. You purchase your actions (or use your already purchased actions) in it. I'm sure you'll get more info from some that have it and can say for sure what's what about it. I do think their products are great and I love the texture player.

Rad Lab are standalone filters, not actions. You might be confused because not everything at the Totally Rad site is "Rad Lab". They have Actions for PS, they have Lightroom Presets, AND they have Rad Lab. Rad Lab is a very specific product from Totally Rad.

Rad Lab works from within PS/PSE and Lightroom.

Yes. What she said.

It's like customizable, layerable photo effects that you add to your photos. You have sliders for each effect that lets you adjust the strength and some of the individual attributes - so you can combine a bunch of different ones to create what they call "recipes". And you can save your favorite recipes if you have a moment of sheer GENIUS.

So you just buy the program, you don't have to buy any packs of effects for it - they're all included.

I have mine integrated with Lightroom (thanks to Christine) so I mainly use it in there since I import my photos into Lightroom and organize them in there.

Oh, and you can download RadLab and try it for 30 days - free. But I warn people that they shouldn't do that unless they're sure they're going to have the $$ once the 30 days are up, because it's tough to go back. LOL

Ahhh, I see. I was thinking it was *all* Rad Lab. I see that their actions (if I'm reading right) aren't compatible with PSE (they need CS2 or higher), but that Rad Lab is.

So I could, say, buy Rad Lab, and it comes with the stylets/filters, and be set? I can't do the $150 right now, but I'll be watching sales if I can't convince SOMEONE to get it for me for my bday.

Thanks ladies. I was a hair confuzzled. :)

One more thing that's awesome about Rad Lab is that you can preview any filter on your actual photo just by hovering over the filter. And once you click, the photo immediately changes. It's not like actions where you don't really know how it will look on your photo. Plus actions take longer to run. This is like one-click!

They've had a really big sale around Black Friday if you can wait that long.

What Peppermint said, don't do the trial unless you're ready because you'll want it

i bought it on black friday - i love it - i REALLY love being able to preview what the filter will look like ..

I use RadLab in PSE and LOVE it. I've had it for a long time... maybe a year or so... and it's amazing. Instead of actions, it has a bunch of filters and you can combine them to create your own "recipe" which you can then save and use over and over. They also have recipes you can download on the site, which are simply combinations that people have shared. It really has changed my photography and memory keeping.

i really like the preview option. when i used PSP in the old days (ok, really like months ago), there were add-ons that did the same thing. then you don't have to run the action and wonder what the thing will end up looking like..and rerun another.
