Rabbit Holes of the Internet. I get on to check one thing, or research one thing, and the next thing I know I'm in a totally different spot, reading about something else entirely! Like today. I wanted to see if anyone had ideas on sorting Lego bricks by size (our by color isn't working anymore). Sure there is. And then I drifted down the rabbit hole of buying bunches off craigslist or ebay, and started to go look to see what's available. I pulled myself back in time today luckily! Of course, that was after I also checked out the storage containers a few articles mentioned on Amazon. And look! A Lego ruler/sorter to print out....

Rabbit Holes are my weakness on the Internet. How about you? Do you end up down Rabbit Holes on the internet?

Married to an adult lego nerd, he strongly recommends sorting by size/shape over colour, or trying to keep kits together. Yesterday, after reading the posts here on genealogy, i logged back on to Ancestry. ca (Haven't done much since September). Found distant cousins 3x removed who had died in 2015, so I searched for their obituaries on line, found someone who thought they had a marriage record from Germany the applied to one of my ancestors, put it all in google translate, and found out there was no way it could be a match... this is a very deep rabbit hole.

Yes, yes!! Lots of rabbit holes for me!! I sometimes forget what I started looking for - close the internet and am in the midst of doing something around the house when it dawns on me what I was doing before I feel into the hole!!! LOL!
There's just too . much . info . online!!

every.stinkin.day. sometimes my attention span is the equivalent of a gnat's - it's ridiculous.

on the lego sorting thing - i bought a bunch of those tool sorting storage things that have those little plastic bins. but nothing really got sorted. but we didn't think to do that until much later in my son's lego loving phase. i think a year or too later he stopped playing with them. you are smart to try to conquer this early on! good luck.

@bestcee @Juliestcyr we are turning into a lego nerd family! my son just moved on from duplo. and we want all the sets! just bought 12 disney minifigures online yesterday for him! so any sorting tips, i may need them. his collection is not very large yet.

on the topic of rabbit holes...yes...all the time...ooh look...follow...wait..what's that? call me alice!

Yes, often. I start somewhere, my curiosity strikes, and I'm off running lead in the Rabbit Hole Race! Between information, facebook, random articles, and anything and everything in the internet... it's a lost cause. I am a Rabbit Hole Master. Oh... and as soon as I close the tabs on my internet, I remember what I was doing in the first place... and it all starts again!

@jagruti, my advice for families who don't already have lego collections: hit garage sales. Buy it in bulk from families trying to get rid of it, and then use Brick Builders, Let's Build it Again or one of the other sites that publish pretty much all of the instruction books ever. I also find that a big bin kids can just sort through encourages more creativity than getting a single kit in a box. Also my supreme lego commandment is, "No piece of lego shall leaveth the carpet ineth the playroom." Because if I step on one of those little 2x1 pieces in the middle of the night...

yes, i also have the rule of pieces must stay on play mat! those things hurt!

Rabbit Holes are good! Look at all we can learn while in them!! :)

As for sorting Legos....can they really be sorted????? AND do they stay that way????? I'm years past the Lego stage. They have come out with so many more neat kits and all.

I do this all the freakin' time. We had the last two days off for snow and I was going to be so productive, but I spent both days in one rabbit hole after another!!

yep. i sit down to pay a bill or something online and half an hour later i realise i never even got my bank page open:badputer

Pinterest & Youtube are like that for me. Sometimes I purposely 'rabbit hole' when I want to/need to relax but am not motivated enough to scrap or do something else productive.
pinterest is always a rabbit hole for me - there should be an end point, as in you can only scroll so far before it tells you 'go and do you IRL stuff!'

yes to this....
especially Pinterest. I avoid getting in there unless I am very very sure looking for something specific, and when I am posting my pages there?
I have a strict rule, NO LOOK, just go , click to post to the board I need to post, exit.
Otherwise, you may not see me for a couple of days LOL

Another one for me is imdb, and lots of other things like I maybe looking for a photo of one of the hospitals here in London where I spent time, ended up in a site that talks about the Chilean natives that were almost all exterminated by the Spanish Colonialists.... I haven't done much as my reading has been so dfifficult these past few weeks, I have been binging on Netflix & Amazon video ...

I have been down that exact same Lego rabbit hole. Did you see the graffiti I left behind?

I do this pretty much every day. Today I researched how to fix a chip in a granite composite sink and ended up some time later at websites re modern big band music. I'm not even sure how it happened! :D

Ohhhh, I love my rabbit holes!! Fall in them all the time, but find the most amazing and interesting subjects!!

I've limited my internet browsing to nighttime...I usually get sucked into facebook and then will go read all sorts of articles that my friends are posting. So, I reserve that for nighttime...except I have to work at night. So even then my facebook time is limited, basically just to get caught up with my groups or messages.

Other than getting off track on facebook I tend to stay pretty focused.

This is me to a T!!!

Absolutely! Actually, I think I **live** in a rabbit hole! LOL Technology is a blessing, but it is also a curse in that without being diligent . . . I can certainly lose lots of time to it.

As far as Lego organization . . . we have gone the route of the color . . . and it's been working for a long time. I haven't done an updated layout about Daniel's collection since he inherited a collection from his aunt. I guess I need to photograph it again!
