Do you ever set out to do something and in the process of doing that one thing, you need to switch over and do something that leads you ten steps into another direction? I feel like lately, most of my days end up this way. Is it just me?

It seems like it doesn't matter what I'm doing (starting to cook dinner, upload a scrap page, answer an online question, etc.), I end up an hour (or more) in another direction and then have to remember to chase back and finish the original task.

What about you? And another question, are there some really interesting places you find yourself (physically, mentally or virtually) because of these rabbit holes?

Always. A lot at work, lol!

I just sort of try to multitask my way through, and check what I've done. If I can't, I make piles or a list, so I don't get too sidetracked I forget.

Hmm. I like to stick with one task and finish it, though sometimes I get sidetracked a bit (I even turn off my wi-fi to keep myself focused if I notice I'm on Amazon instead of whatever I'm supposed to be doing, and I don't have a personal account on FB anymore simply to completely limit that distraction). My problem is verbal rabbit holes, especially when I talk to my mom. SHE'S the reason for the trip down the rabbit hole: she's a very verbal thinker, so she'll literally start a sentence but not yet know what the point is lol, so she includes lots of info... which then gets her thinking about something else, and a sentence that starts with "I'm looking at a new fridge" which then goes into a 5-minute soliloquy and ends with "and then they bought that condo he was looking at and then the next day your father went to Chicago." :backingI don't even feel like I'm needed for her conversations sometimes!

I'm infamous for rabbit holes. I often tell my husband about this article that I stumbled upon while looking for x, y, or z.

I've found interesting stuff but I don't usually remember it days or weeks later! I have found that because of rabbit holes I have to be conscious of what I'm doing. I write lists so I can stay on track.

I think it's also the way my mind works. I'm infamous in our family and friends for suddenly commenting on something we talked about months ago or that almost kinda relates.
Like right now, I'm watching my son practice for indoor soccer. And if you were to ask what's on my mind, I would answer I'm thinking of switching from Canon to Nikon. Lol.
Is logical to me though ;)

This happens to me every single day, pretty much every single hour, of my life lol. That's why I kind of have to create my planner as a memory planner instead of a to-do type thing, otherwise I'd constantly be erasing things and moving them haha. I get distracted so easily. I was uploading layouts earlier and somehow ended up looking at new living room furniture...no idea how that happened.
My husband gets tickled at me all the time because my mind goes in so many different directions and I will just blurt out something that I'd already had a whole conversation with myself about in my head. He will be like "wth are you talking about?" And it will be something that was maybe talked about days or weeks before and I just happened to think of something to add to it, but to me it makes sense because it had already been back in my mind.

Boy-oh-boy, can I get lost in rabbit holes! Usually it's because I click on a YouTube video link from Facebook, and then I end up watching a variety of YouTube tutorials, how-to's, planner videos, scrapbooking process videos, etc.

I've been able to stay on track most of the time because of my planner. But even then, yeah, that doesn't help sometimes.

Now that I've been reading other's posts, my biggest rabbit holes would be craft projects. I can't tell you just how many different projects I've got started, but not finished. I don't even want to count them. Then I go on Amazon to look at craft books, and then I've entered not a rabbit hole, but a black hole...:lol

And @IntenseMagic - I do the same thing! All of the time. I'd love to see what a conversation between the two of us would be like. :rofl

I spent entirely too much time watching youtube videos of abandoned amusement parks last night. :-/

:imokHallelujah! You mean someone besides myself has this problem!

I have ADHD so that is just normal life for me lol. I tried the medication for it but it just made me a zombie with no motivation. ICK! I'd rather be energetic yet chaotic lol

@QuiltyMom hah.....I totally could have written your post. haaha

This happens to me all the time. I'll be doing something and thinking about something else. At work, I have to make myself focus on one thing or I'll go down that rabbit hole and nothing gets done.

Yes! I keep a list visible on my fridge of tasks to complete during the day (school work to do with the kids & chores to do around the house). For work I keep a list on my computer. I try to always have those things visible so I can keep on task...but walking to a different room (put away laundry, oh wait, I need to make the bed, that reminds me, I should wash the sheets it's been awhile, walk to the laundry to be sidetracked by a kid...and the cycle continues) or getting on the internet will get me sidetracked, different facebook articles suck me in. I like marking things off my list so I usually can get back on track pretty fast.

Total rabbit holes for me: YouTube, Pinterest, going to get a skein of yarn for a project and then downloading 50 more patterns and never getting around to what I was working on...same thing with sewing, here (come to check on the forums and get lost in the store, the gallery, etc), Facebook, and the list goes on. Or go to the basement to do a load of laundry, end up cleaning out the spare fridge, digging in the craft supplies, whatever, and totally forget all about the laundry. If I make a plan for the day I usually stay on track. If not, I get a lot of nothing accomplished.

In every area of my life, I am so easily distracted that I spend all of every day in a series of rabbit holes. Fun though - I'm never bored :party3
