my last book I printed I did the white border around the pages so I didn't cut anything off.

What margins do you use on pages so when you print the whole page is printed i.e none of the writing is cut off. I must be honest and don't understand the whole bleed thing...is it just another term for margins? I am looking to print 12x12 or 10x10.

thanks :)

I follow the tip Kimberly Lund gave me... before saving my page as a jpg to print, I select everything but the background paper and reduce that group to 97%. I did 98% last time, but with the particular templates that I used, that left things a little close. I did 95% for an album this summer, and it was a little much, so I'm trying 97% now.

To date, I've been doing all of my printing at home and printing on paper that is larger than the page, so it hasn't been an issue, but I think I heard Jana Morton say one time that she reduces her 12X12 to 11 3/4X11 3/4 . I wonder if the printer could answer that question for you?

When I print, I print in photo books. To make my life easier, when I scrap, I have a grid set on every side about 1/2" in from teh edge. This way I know not to put anything important there that I would mind cutting off. When I print, they cut off what they need to, and I don't have any extra steps later on to do before printing.

I have pictures of one of my albums, and a guest book I think you will be able to see.... It is an old one though, lol!

The other is a guest book I did for DH's cousin as a small gift. That was a different size, but the grids worked perfectly. This one might be a better example, only because the digital papers and the printed layouts are in the same FB album.

thanks ladies!!

I would be putting them in a book yes and my first one there is a little that is cut off but none of it writing.
When I completed my pages I uploaded them and I saw that some of my writing will in fact be cut off so will have to do it with the white border around which looks nice but in case I want to do a full page was wondering what margins you all used :)

I may try resizing to 11 3/4x11 3/4 to see if that works though, great tips.

Jenn I can't check out those books on my work computer (FB blocked) but will check them out for sure.

Unfortunately, sometimes margin and bleed depends on where you print, and that printer's consistency for same... Shutterfly for example sizes down - 12x12 becomes 11.95x11.95 (bleed or background) all text should be well within 11.75x11.75. Artifact Uprising sizes up... for their Instagram 8.5x8.5 book, pages should be 8.75x8.75...

To check text as you go, if you are not starting from a file template, you might want to set your guides so that your left vertical guide is at least 0.625" from the edge - binding margin, and your right vertical, top and bottom horizontal guides come in at least 0.25 from the edge....

Thank you Nettie, I was in fact looking at Shutterfly as they offer a 10x10 size. I have used Blurb in the past and was pleased with cost, quality and how long it took, but they don't have 10x10.

I do the same as Tracie for my Shutterfly books. After I upload all my pages I preview the album to see which pages might have something cut out and I go in and shrink everything except the background by 97%. It sounds like a pain, but I only have to do this for a handful of pages... especially any pocket pages as those have stuff close to all the edges.

thanks Karen, I have saved all the files as TIFFS so if I had to make any changes I could.

I have printed mine the last two years at Artifact Uprising. I do 12x12 layouts and then resize the canvas to 13x13 and spread by background paper to fit.
