I posted this in the hybrid forum, but now I'm thinking I should have posted here since it's about printing project life cards. Here's what I asked...

Can anyone point me to some good posts/tutorials about how to print 3x4 pocket cards on 4x6 sheets and have them centered properly? I just got my printer and just started printing, and it has taken me no less than three attempts each time I've printed to finally get a print where I didn't lose something important around the edges (and even then, it wasn't very centered). I use PS and I'm printing on a Canon Pixma.

Thanks!

Hmmmm...why are you printing on 4 x 6? Are you trying to use photopaper, is that why? Typically if I'm printing journaling cards I print on a 8.5 x 11 presentation paper. You can fit more cards on there and get it all done in one shot. Maybe I don't quite understand what you are asking. Is your card all complete with photo and journaling and that is what you are trying to print off?

Sorry about that! I should have been more specific. Here is my current just for fun project, a recipe/food journal...

I'm trying to print the "cards" for the two 3x4 spots on one 4x6, so I can cut them and add them to my binder. I make myself crazy trying to figure out how to get them on the same sheet and to look fairly even.

Here's how I had to adjust the right card in order to get it to print somewhat centered...

Just wondering if there was an easier way other than trial and error :-/

Lol! Trial and error is one of my main ways to learn things! Ah I see now the problem. I'm guessing it is a bleed issue. Printers don't actually print at 4 x 6, they enlarge it a little bit. Hmmm...I know Heather Greenwood wrote a post about this and using an 8 x 10 template, but I don't know anything else. Sorry! I love your project though. It is super cute!

Is bleed just an issue with 4x6? I want to eventually print sheets of cards as well. Do I need to do anything special or just print as is?

Margins and printing where you want it

Hi. I print my own digi pages borderless and I've found that creating the size of the paper a quarter-inch smaller than I want it to print works perfectly for me. I found the amount by some trial and error, but once you find it, it works forever. I use an Epson printer, a Mac and PSE. I print 12x12 pages. I create the page at 12x12 and than, just before I print, I resize it to 11.75x11.75. You may have to play with your own setup a little to find the adjustment that works for you.

When placing printing exactly on a specific spot on a 4x6 or 3x4 card, I tend to use the old low-tack double-sided tape trick. Print your printing on a letter-sized piece of paper. Tape your card over the printing so it is placed exactly where you want it and run the paper back through your printer. I buy the tape at an office supply store. Doing it this way tends to get rid of the bleed problem, since you're not printing borderless, but on a letter-sized sheet of paper, regular.

Ihad to make my own template because I am using pockets that are smaller than the 3x4 cards. I just pull my 2 cards I want to use onto my template and resize etc... and then save it as a jpeg. then I open my jpeg and print from that on a 4x6 and choose the borderless 4x6 borderless option in the print dialog box. Then I cut them apart and add to my pockets. I am using a canon pixma printer.

Thanks everyone for the input! I'm going to try the suggestions when I print next and see how it goes.
