Pre-lit Tree or Tree + Lights?

We have a prelit tree and have had it now for 17 years.. 2 years ago is when some of the lights started to go out.. last year I found this thing in walmart that helps to find the outage and fixes it.. a gun like thingy... but it helped for a few and then it all went out again in a spot .. I ended up putting that side against the wall. this year we tried to fix.. now there is some fuses by the plug in, but by that point with the tree all assembled and dear hubby already annoyed, he tried to replace the fuse on that strand but said oh forget it as another section went out. I just got out a strand of lights I have for a mini tree and put those on.

I have bought 2 new boxes with 100 lights each for $2.94 each at walmart and will prob get more after Christmas so we will put the string of lights on once they start going.. I love our tree and while we have gotten great life out of ours, I do not want to replace it as it really is a lovely tree so I will continue to string it with the white lights seperately as the prelit ones go out.

I bought a ten foot tree when we moved because the living room has cathedral ceilings - not prelit. Wish I had a prelit - but can't afford for now... :-)

Maybe it k not to have a pre-lit...

no live (now dying) trees for me - please let them live! If you want a fresh tree (and do not have a cat) get one potted and plant it in the spring.

ours lasted 15 years before the lights started to go.. I think we are doing ok! :) the one section is in the back no one sees anyway!! :)

I think out tree came with the lights? but Sarita has to untangle and work out how they go...three different colors,... it is her job so...I really don;t know, but it does look gorgeous!!!! well it did last year, we haven't done it yet...

We have a pre lit tree for about 3 Christmases now, and none of the lights have gone out yet... This year when we took it out of the box I saw that I must have been pretty tired the last couple years because it sure looks cheap, and I never noticed, lol... Or, maybe it's because my in laws are all coming here for Christmas. Or, maybe it's because you get what you pay for... It was $99 at walmart and I surely got it on sale! Either way, it is getting the job done for now. I do love that I don't have to vacuum up a million needles over the month, so that is good!

Huggles!!

he he, we only have a teeny tiny 4 footer this year because our flat is so teeny tiny - but I have enjoyed reading about all of your adventures here.

Pre-lit here ... we have one little string near the top that sometimes acts up and flicks on and off. No rhyme or reason.

When the kids were little we would go to the tree farm & cut one down or to a local stand to pick one out if short on time - but once they lost interest, I lost interest. So I bought the artificial a few years back. I do miss the smell of a real tree - but oh those pine needles, nope I do not miss that!

We did buy a new tree this year because last year one section of lights went out and we had to put an extra strand on in its place. It's smaller in circumference AND there are no cords to plug in the different sections of the tree (which is what our last one had). This one, you just snap the pieces into the "trunk" of the tree and it automatically lights up. It's quite delightful.

This! Oh, this.

I've had two pre-lit trees in the last 9 years. The first one was fine when we "retired" it (it's actually still in my attic storage) a few years ago. I bought a new one simply because I needed a skinny tree to fit in our living room (we moved in between trees), and the original pre-lit tree we had was really fat. The new one has the same feature as Cheryl's with the power connections actually made when the trunk pieces snap together, and I can put it together in less than 5 minutes. It's awesome!

We've had the current tree in use for 4-5 years with no issues whatsoever with lights.
