I've been scrapping with PSE6 since 2008. Eeps, that is long time! Anyway I finally was able to get CS6 this past week. I'm slowly finding where everything is and it isn't too bad. However, there are some things I just can't find for the life of me, or I can't figure how to do something. I try googling it like I always did for PSE but for whatever reason it never pulls up what I'm looking for. So....do you have any good websites you go to figure out how to do something in PS? Link me up if you do!

My biggest problem right now is getting my styles to all loud into a folder or something so I'm not trying to find them amid all the other styles. I'll love you forever if you know how to solve that problem!

I usually just google when I am having trouble, so I am not sure of any sites to visit.

Your styles question confuses me a little; let me know if you meant something else. You want them to show separate from the default styles in CS6? I did not know there was a way to do that. I just deleted the defaults and loaded the ones I wanted. Once I got my custom styles loaded, I clicked save styles in the drop down menu in the upper right corner of the styles tab and that saves my custom sets.

OH I think I know what she means. In PSE6 (I have 5) you can pull down a drop down menu and pick which folder of styles you want and it filters them from the long list. I don't think there is a way is CS5, and I dont' have CS6.

Dalis you hit it on the head. That is what I was looking for! I can't believe a product that cost more has less organization in it. Something to get used to I guess.

Tronesia thanks for your help too. I have tried googling things but for whatever reason I can't find the things I'm looking for.

Thanks for the suggestion Wendy I'll have to check that out.

Adobe's website has really good tutorials and videos, too.

You can "replace styles" to get rid of those default ones and then just load your own styles. I don't think I've ever used those PS styles!

you totally get used to it, Jewelle... I totally forgot they had folders in PSE... shows how easy it is to get used to it ;)

I have an older copy of PSE with a tablet I bought but never used it. You would think that would have been a feature to put in the CS version. Actually sounds like it'd be helpful.

I never understood why a feature that was so helpful in PSE would not have been in CS. I have been told that it is possible to create folders like that by creating xml files using metadata. The process was so convoluted that I just gave up and decided that it wasn't worth it to me to spend the time to figure it out.

Hmmm...see I have the xml file for the style I'm trying to load. My I should contact the designer. She may have a hidden little secret for me to share, lol!

Reading your post has sent me back to looking at this problem. It is one that annoyed me as well. :) In looking around, I am seeing references to organizing libraries in the preset manager. I don't think this will do exactly what you wanted, but it might be an easy, compromise work-around. I haven't tried it so no guarantees. :)

Maybe I'm odd, but I like having all my styles loaded in one long list as opposed to having to go through drop-down menus. But I load and unload styles on the fly a lot, so I never have everything active at once. And I use the "small list" view (I think? I'm not near PS right now) so they load in one long list of thumbnails with their descriptions next to them.

You know Peppermint that may help me if I can't figure out the folder thing. Right now I can only see the icon, which doesn't help when all these styles look the same. But a list with descriptions would be nice. I'll have to go figure out how.

There's a button on the top right corner of the Styles panel on your sidebar. The same button you would use to load or reset the styles panel - an upside down triangle with four lines next to it. You can choose small thumbnails, large thumbnails, small list or large list.

Any of your styles that are saved in the "styles" folder under AppData will show up down below. So you can always choose one then a pop-up shows up asking if you want to replace the current styles (which would make the new styles the only ones over there) or append the styles (which will tack them onto the bottom). So theoretically you can use that the same as you did the drop down menu in PSE.

I used to do the XML file stuff for PSE but not sure if it is valid for CS.

this is how I do it too

if you hover over the icon with your mouse, it will tell you the name of the style. I used the preset manager to make a set of my favorite styles that I use often and then I just leave that loaded. I don't use a ton of styles though, so it's not like I have tons to go through.

This is probably going to sound more difficult than it really is, no xml files involved. You can create the "set" of styles using the save styles mentioned above. Once you have that saved, you can copy that .asl file into your presets . . . You will need to close out of CS6, but when you re-open it, your new saved style will be in the styles pull down list.

The path for Windows 7 is: user\appdata\roaming\adobe\adobe photoshop cs6\presets\styles

Ohh this worked! That is a pretty neat thing and would be a lot easier to swap them out.

ok that went over my head but i don't have PS open so that could be why. however what you described sounds similar to how I had to load ALL styles in PSE. I'll give it a go. Thanks for the help!
