Photo organization

The other day, I saw a kit I wanted to use with the WA that had to do with laughter. I searched my LR for "laugh", "laughter" and found several laughing kids/people staring back at me. I also label each batch with stars so if there are 3-4 in a series, I know w/o looking closely, which one is the best (based on my ***). I ALSO label by color once I have scrapped with a photo (yellow), as well as when I KNOW I want to scrap with them (red).

So, if I need inspiration, I'll just choose all of my RED pics and chose one. Just b/c it's been used, doesn't mean I won't use it again necessarily, but it tells me that it is, at least, on a page already.

You totally inspired me, I was a tagging fool last night! I love the idea of putting multiple tags on photos, so that when I see a kit that I want to scrap with, they are right there for me. I haven't managed to implement the color coded system yet, but I have aspirations to that! :)

YAY. It can become addictive. And for me, no tag is too silly if it's what I'm thinking. I even have a tag called "silly" :giggle

Once you build enough tags, auto fill is a time-saver, and the recently used tags in LR is awesome, too.

my folders that look like this:

year - month - all images of the month come into this + folder with special actions (like Tournaments or trips) and an folder "iphone"
 
Right now I organize by year then event.

My iPhone photos have their own folders. through the month, I just dump, then once the month ends and I start my month-in-review page, I organize them into 'events' then a folder for cat and dog photos.

I wish I had something that I could tag with, but I don't have much room for photos on my HD, so they're all on an EHD.
 
I use Picasa to tag my photosbut since I took my course of photography, I am really considering of buying me a Lightroom program: for the processing and the library option everyone seems to swear by.
But.... I am pretty sure it won't take over my tags in Picasa, so I'm still in doubt...
 
I do not store my photos in LR, or iphoto. I acutally took off iphoto. It causes my computer to run slow. I do a lot of photography work and graphics so I can't clutter up my harddrive. Running PHotoshop CC and Lightroom, as well as a few other programs...(imovie, pages, word, istudio) I keep no photos on my computer. Too many crashes. My syestem is as follows: I put each year, month in a folder on my External hard drive. I also upload them all to shutterfly (have a share site). This year, I'm adding them to dropbox as well. So, if something were to happen to my computer, whether it get broken, crash, or stolen, I have my photos in at least two other places. And some go on facebook as well.
