Photo Canvas for Mother's Day

Okay, I got the canvas done that I was talking about. Thought I'd share with you. I ended up using Mod Podge for the adhesive. It was super easy actually, and worked like a charm. Plus put a protective coat over the pics and left some cool brush texture to give it character. I think I like the way it turned out. I hope my Mom's do! (I've finished one... I have 2 more to go!)

so you can see the width... i decided not to fix any hangers on it. i think they can use the frame of the canvas to hang... simpler that way.

and so you can see (maybe) the texture in the mod podge over the pics.

I used M4H's matchstick actions for pse to edit the pics... i would have been at it all day otherwise!!

Rebecca - that is amazing! Did you print on paper then apply to the canvas, or did you print on fabric?

Wowza! This is so amazing! Now I want to make one of these! I'm redecorating my sons room right now. How cool would this be of pictures of him? I'm curious too if you printed these or I'd they are real pictures.

thanks heather!! for printing, i just did regular old 4x6 mat photo prints at 1-hour developing...

it is an 18x24 canvas, so i basically decided to break it up into 3x4 sections (or 4x6 for the few horizontal photos). this size let me print all of them 4x6 (putting 2 3x4's on one print). cut way back on printing cost.

i had roughly blocked out the grid in pencil straight onto the canvas. i just started by mounting the one of the center photos first, and built out. i did the edge photos last to let them overlap the inner photos... prevented them from hanging off the edge of the canvas.

basically i just put enough mod podge on the canvas for one photo, placed the photo, smoothed it w/ a roller, and then moved on to the next photo. once all the photos were fixed to the canvas, i let it set for 10 minutes, and then went back over it with a layer of mod podge on top of the photos to seal them and keep themin place. it seems pretty secure... i guess only time will tell if they actually hold. :)

that's awesome rebecca!! i'll have to try that one day for my MIL - she's looooove it!

I bought my canvas today at Michaels... 50% off! :) I'm redoing my son's bedroom from baby decorations to a big boy room so I'm going to make a big one of pictures with him as the star. :)

I finally finished mine and it turned out SO great! My son keeps looking and it (because it's all pictures with him in it) and asking all kinds of questions. The Mod Podge over the top is pure genius! I made mine 24" x 30" and I love how it turned out. I'm totally going to make another one for my other son's room too!

Sorry about the glare, but you get the idea... :)

Karen, it turned out fantastic!! I"m so glad your son likes it!
Yes, I'm thinking I might actually do a few different variations of this idea now that I know how super simple it is! And what EASY hallway decorations - how cool would it be to have one for each year or something like that?

What actually gave me the idea was something I saw on a blog I follow... she has a photo mural WALL. She just started at the bottom and put her oldest pics, and then built upward from there. She hot glued her pics to the wall, though. Since I don't know that we'll be here forever, I was not willing to do that. But I figured a canvas would be a decent alternative... although much smaller than a whole wall. :giggle

Okay, that is way too cool!!! I must try this!!! You are truly an inspiration girl!!! :-)
