If you have pets, do they have any weird quirks? Any unusual things they do? Or do they have strange things they like to eat that are out of the norm? Or a favorite toy they can't live without? Do you document these things?

My mom used to have a dog that ate all kinds of weird things. She'd constantly text me to tell me the latest weird thing he'd eat. We had a cat, Piper, who loved stuffed green peppers. Not the filling, just the cooked pepper. And she also loved corn on the cob. So weird. Bobby (our Boston) likes sliced tomatoes and watermelon. Our cat, Isabella, was rolling in coconut-shell peat today and loving it as much as if it was catnip. And our neighbor's cat, loves to ride in the car. You actually have to watch for it because it will run across the street and jump into your car once you open it, and then you have to try to get it back out. :giggle

What about you? Any weird pet quirks??

We have a jack russell/beagle mix named Charlie and she has a couple of funny quirks.

For one thing - she LOVES bubbles! I learned this the hard way when we were all in the back yard and I was blowing bubbles for my then 2 & 3 yr olds. Charlie went nuts trying to pop the bubbles - to the point of knocking the girls down to get to the bubbles first. It was insane and hilarious once we got over the crying. I have documented that - I actually did a page recently because the girls are older and wiser now and blow bubbles specifically for the dog!

She also has a thing for people's feet. She loves to lick bare feet, doesn't matter if you are part of the family or not which can be a little awkward when we have guests over. :)

My dog does so many weird things. There are woods behind our house, and if he is outside when we get home he goes leaping and barking in to the woods before he comes to greet us. I always tell DH that he is chasing away the "woods monster" to keep us safe :giggle He loves cat food, and if I don't feed them separately, he will always take the cat food over the dog food. And, he has made a permanent path the length of our yard in the front. When he comes and goes, he always uses the path to get from one end to the other. I haven't documented any of it, but I really should!

Our animals are super quirky! We have a cat, Serta, who will beat you up to get your corn on the cob. Like, seriously growl at you, grab it and run. She also loves raw spinach. Our other cat, Huckleberry, prefers dog food and we catch him eating the dogs' food all the time. He will sit on a bathroom sink and howl until someone comes along to turn the sink on for him to drink no matter how many fresh water bowls are available. He also likes to drink ice water from a glass. If hubby makes ice water Huckleberry will come taste it. Our dog Jackson is scared of everything. A funny noise will send him into a shivering panic, especially a buzzing noise or a squeal. He's terrified of roly-poly bugs, little girls, and video game noises. Cuervo, our other dog, is like a purple minion in personality but otherwise pretty normal so far. He is scared of nothing. Our guinea pig, Monty, gets super jealous when we play with the dogs or Skype with the grandbabies and will run circles in his very large cage to get attention. If he's mad at us for whatever reason he sits on top of his house and turns his butt to us. He demands his lunchtime salad at promptly 11:30 and if we dally he will squeal very loudly and stomp his feet. Over the years we've had a white cat who loved to roll around on freshly mopped with Clorox floors, a cat who would steal and eat cigarettes, a cat who would steal and open any type of bread left on the counter, and many other crazy critters with quirks. We love them and they are all spoiled rotten.

Our furbaby, Holly Belle, is just downright spoiled.

In the evenings, when I go to bed, she waits until I'm comfortable and turned on my side, then hops up and makes a little nest at my waist with her head on my hip.

In the morning, she waits for me to get up and then gives me lots of meows to let me know she's ready to eat. She will sit patiently by her bowls waiting, or if she's tired of waiting, she follows me around, meowing incessantly.

She loves to drink milk from a glass and will wait until I'm done to have a bit. She also loves ice cream, and prefers to lick it off my fingers. No, I don't drink milk after that or eat ice cream. She gets all the little treats at the end when I'm done and can then put the dishes in the dishwasher.

She somehow knows whenever I'm on a Hangout video call with Courtney @bestcee , and comes to my desk, biting at my hands so I can't scrap and have to pick her up or just stares at me. She also likes to lay on or near my mouse or on top of my planner.

She loves to be held like a baby, and when she's really comfortable like that, she will stretch out so she's very, very long.

We have our cat Poppy. She sleeps on the pillow next to mine. She lays on me whenever she can. But, if she sees me in the hall, she runs away! I tell her "Poppy, we sleep in the same bed. It doesn't make sense!" She complains at 4am every day, whether she has fresh food or not. Her squeaky voice sounds like letting air out of a balloon. She will take an omelet off my plate because it has everything she loves--eggs, cheese, turkey, & avocado

She's still weary of the younger child, but she's in love with the 8yr old. He sings "Soft Kitty" from Big Bang Theory to her. She's enraptured every time. It's so friggin' funny.

This is my 2 1/2 year old, Dozer. He's my service dog too. He does tons of weird stuff. Some of it not amusing...like eating the corners of the walls....We rent, not cool Dozer. Not cool.

My cat Lucy loves olives. Not the jarred kind with pimento, although she will steal one of those if she gets a chance. She loves loves those big Greek olives covered on oil. It's like catnip to her. She will lick it almost to the seed before she tires of pushing it around and rolling herself all over it.
For some strange reason she also wants to chew on plastic bags. We have to hide them.

What a fun thread. My heart needed this today <3

Our kitties aren't too quirky. But Shadow will only drink her water with her paw. She will "scoop" some water on to it and bring it to her mouth. She outright refuses to just bring her mouth/tongue to the water to drink that way. She also loves bacon and lunchmeat and routinely will try to steal some from her people.

Oh my! Our Lucy Lou the English bulldog is just a hoot. She definitely has the BIGGEST personality of all our pets. She's spoiled rotten mostly- but she's our baby! ;) She is SUPER smart- we've trained her to ring a bell by the door to go out to potty- though mostly now she just rings it so she can go lay in the grass & watch the neighborhood go by! She loves to eat anything- even a dust bunny on the floor is game. I used to say I don't have to sweep much but for every crumb she picks up for me, she drops eleventy billion hairs (she's shedding pretty bad right now!) And don't even get me started about her drool bombs. :drool

One really weird thing about her is that she LOVES water and is a swimming fool! Most english bulldogs sink like the rocks that they are (my girl is around 70 lbs!) but not my Lucy! She's a great swimmer & looks like a hippo in the water! We have a life jacket for her that we put on when she's on the boat- since she is always right up front & that makes me nervous!

She also LOVES the Gator/side-by-side that we take down to the water from the lake house. As soon as we get to the lake, she'll go straight to the garage & beg & whine to be let up into the back of the gator. NO one can go for a gator ride without Lucy!

Lastly- like typical bulldogs- she is L-A-Z-Y! She sleeps most of the day away- usually in the strangest, upside down positions. BUT out at the lake house- she's afraid she might miss something and barely sleeps through the night! SO frustrating! She goes & goes & goes then when we come home, she'll sleep most of monday & tuesday to recuperate! :D Weirdo!

Mango, our longhair chihuahua, is a beast, but she knows she's a beast. Anytime the doorbell rings, she knows she can't be trusted not to try to eat the guest, so she runs into the powder room and barks until you shut her in there.

She also will not eat the dark brown bits in her food.

OMG, ours have so many I can't even begin -

Roxy:
sleeps with a blanket on top of her
Has texture issues with people food - spaghetti, popcorn, egg
Likes to take the plastic ring off of empty water bottles
Pulls her food out of the bowl, drops it on the floor and then eats it off the floor
Chews her feet after dinner
LOVES the shower - she'll sneak in with us when we aren't looking
Sits in my lap and face times with my boss when she's on travel (seriously not kidding)

Aspen:
Has to have the blanket on the couch straight and flat before she'll get up on it
Does circles while you're making her food
Won't drink water while we're gone
Walks between your legs when she's excited
Sits in the window and watches for us to come home
If we rub her ears, she wants to sniff our fingers after

Oh, I love hearing about these quirks. Most of them make me smile, and chuckle! We don't currently have a dog, though we all want one!

Our old dog, Mack, he was a silly dog, a shephard/lab mix, and was smarter than he let everyone know. He would slide open the pantry door, and steal food. Not just any food, something that was individually packaged (like granola bars, a single serve pretzel bag, etc) and then go and hide the packaged food in the couches and beds for eating later. I was lucky it was prepackaged, so my couch or bed wouldn't get dirty from the food. One time, he stole all the fortune cookies on the counter and hid those around the house, lol! He would not steal open food, like from a bag of oreos or open crackers, just prepackaged.

our cat Kermit refuses to go out unless his food bowl is full, he d oesn't eat it then it just has to be available for later. He can also open the front door by hjumping up and hanging on the handle, unfortunately he doesnt feel it necessary to close it behind him! He also loves cheese, he isnt fussy about the type, any will do

oh my goodness ... that sounds adorable. we need a little video of this!

Super fun thread ...

-my shih ztu grabs a bit of food and then has to walk way far away from his bowl to chew it. then he runs back for another nibble ... doing it all over again. it takes him forever to eat. is he trying to burn off his calories while he eats? we don't know. he also sits on his butt, like a person, with his legs crossed and splayed out in front of him. he is super lazy. i usually don't see to much of him bc he will lie around in a quite spot in some far corner of the house for hours ... until he hears a chip bag being opened. then he runs over faster than you can blink. he loves salty chips.
-my cocker/cavalier mix repeats noises i make. almost like a parrot. she try to mimic what i say with her groans. she likes her treats dropped on the floor and would rather not eat of our hands. she will not grab her toys out of her toy box. someone has to get it for her and put it on the floor. so weird.
-the pug runs in circles when it is meal time while waiting for his food, his front paws usually jump up off the floor when he barks, and he licks everything ... all the time. including us, couches, tables, and the other dog's poor faces!

Cute thread :)
Yes we have 2 cats that are definitely different than most of the ones we have had. They are litter mates, about 2 years old now. Plastic- we have to hide bread, ziploc bags with things, any plastic bag has to go in the cupboard or they chew on it! They don't really eat it, just poke a lot of holes. One, named Magic, is crazy for milk and ice cream like Cheryl's cat. if we are having ice cream, we have to keep shoving him away until we are done, and then he can lick the bowl (because we also put it in the dishwasher)! In the morning when I used to try and pour my glass of milk he would jump up on the counter and try to get milk out of the glass! I kept shoving him down, but he was back up before I could pour the whole glass! I finally decided to just give him a few tablespoons full in his bowl, and then I could finally fill my glass :)
The other way these 2 are different is that they are very people friendly. When we have parties, our other cats would usually go upstairs, or somewhere else. They might come out to see who was there, but then went back to somewhere else in the house. Magic and Mystery come as soon as someone comes into the house, and they stay around the whole time. In fact, they get an attitude like"this is my space and you are invading it!" They don't mind the kids picking them up and things. Unfortunately they are a bit territorial when it comes to my son-in-law. We have to shut them up when he comes. Sometimes if he is here for a long while, we let them out and it is Ok. It is weird, they are only that way for a few people- he is just the one that visits the most. Mystery likes to jump on my husband's shoulders and then my husband walks around with him. He is purring up a storm while he is up there. They are a load of fun and we are so glad we have them!

That's awesome! It reminds me of our Boston, Kate. A few years before she died, she figured out that we would give her treats to get things out of her mouth. So she'd come up to one of us with one of Kennedy's toys locked in her tiny jaws. We'd give her a treat, and pretty soon, she'd be back with something else. If she couldn't find a toy, she'd bring a coin. And if you ignored her or just didn't notice, she'd do these little piggy groans and crunch whatever it was between her teeth until you looked and saw she had something in her mouth. We never figured out all of the different places she hid the stuff she'd bring to exchange for treats, but she definitely had spots where she'd keep treasures (I'd run across stashes when I was cleaning). Sometimes it was just under the ottoman, behind a chair or in the dog bed. She was pretty clever.
