So DH has heard from 2 different people that you can't get peanut butter in Brussels. So I was wondering if this was the case all over Europe?? Cause me thinks we need to be stocking up if that is the case...:helpy

You can find it but it can be difficult depending on where you go. You might be able to find an international market that has it.

Or you might just have to convert to Nutella :)

i don't know about the rest of europe, but peanut butter was definitely not the norm in paris (or france as a whole) - i don't think they sold it at my normal grocery store or anything like that ... but, there was an american grocery store that probably stocked it.. not sure how many of the big cities have stores like that ... the one in paris was called 'thanksgiving' (link: http://www.thanksgivingparis.com/) .... to be honest though - i never even went there - LOL - and i LOVE peanut butter - but there was so much other GREAT local food there that i didn't even miss it - i just ate like a frenchie ;)

and - my husband (who is french) and i always crack up ... we had a destination wedding in florida - and there was a table with one of our american friends and also a french friend - the american friend was drinking a big glass of milk and our french friend found this really strange. she then asked him - in a really interested and almost concerned voice - if he also like peanut butter - like it was the weirdest thing in the world to like - hahaha.

I know huh....I only use peanut butter if I am baking and it calls for it...we are a total nutella family :)

Well, I don't know about Europe, I've never been there, but here it is hard to find. And when you find it is sweeter than the American ones though I prefer yours. It is kinda salty for me and I LOVE it. I love Nutella too, that is easy to find here.
The weird thing is: you can easily find Philadelphia cream cheese here and it is sooo cheap, but peanut butter, that is difficult. This is the reason why when we go to the US we buy there, because we are not Americans, but we love it so much.

Isn't it funny how something that is so popular in one place is almost unheard of somewhere else! Personally I hate peanut butter and I won't give my kids anything with peanuts in. We do have nutella (not me ...yuck) but a peanut free brand. Though I believe the nutella brand has no peanuts now too...anyway blabber blabber blabber

nutella is getting really big over here in the US.
i have yet to try it.
what do you eat it on?
is it healthy?
i keep looking at it, thinkin i'll try it.
it looks chocolatey...
ROFL

just use it like peanut butter! It's hazelnut and cocoa. Not healthy but better than peanut butter I believe.

OMG Jacque...it's so yummy on toast or graham crackers with bananas...I even clipped a recipe from April's Family Circle that is a hazelnut pie made with it.

hmmmmmmmmm
i LOVE peanut butter.

but this really sounds yummy.
i'll have to pick some up next time i'm at the store.

my kids just eat it on bread like pb sammiches.
or you can put it on fruit, crackers, whatever...

Nutella is the bomb. I don't buy it because I'll eat it. I can't stay out of it. When I was staying with friends in Austria (when I was 16), we woke up every morning to fresh breads, the best butter in the world, sliced meats and cheeses, and nutella. I loved spreading the butter on thick and then the Nutella. Talk about fattening!

My boys love it, but then again...a good reason not to buy it!

There's plenty of peanut butter in the UK! I love it, but I am the only person in the house who likes it so I never buy it because I would eat the entire jar in seconds. :lol

My kids are also the ONLY children on the planet not to like Nutella either.

It's easy to find peanut butter in Norway too, and we never have anything, so if they have it here, I'm sure they have it in Belgium too:)

I don't know if ours taste the same as yours though (not a peanut butter fan), but I know that some of the more upmarket shops stock American brands too.

urghhhh peanut buttery yak!,actually i never tried it just do not fancy it one bit and we can get it here no problem, now nutela is a differant matter if i wasnt on a diet i could eat it from the jar with a spoon or if i dont wanna share just stick my finger in it ha ha yum yum

Kate mine dont like nutella either but they like a cheap shop brand own version of it weird kids or what!!.I think its the NUT in the title that does it for them where a cheapo version is just called chocolate spread

I can buy it here at my local grocery store and i live in a tiny little bavarian village. There is only one brand mind you, but my kids love it. My oldest would eat bread with peanut butter for every meal if I let him. Actually, he pretty much does.

I have seen it in nearly every grocery store i have been in here in Germany so I guess it's pretty plentiful.

I`m not sure about belgium but I could ask my friends over there for you :)
In Germany I think you can get it everywhere now...

and Nutella is sooo yummy. jacque you have to try it ;) i could eat it just with a spoon out of the glass

I love Austrian breakfast, especially the rolls and the butter. I don't know why, but butter is soooo much better in Europe. It will be my downfall! Not sure I could pile on nutella after the butter, but then again it does sound yummy.
