So, hubby & I went and saw Harry part 1 over the weekend. I know it's been getting mixed reviews, but I wanted to know what YOU guys think. If you saw it, chime in and let me know your thoughts!

As for me, while I agree that it was a tad slow for a good chunk, I'd say it was that way simply because they did such a fantastic job staying true to the book (which has been a major complaint of mine for past movies, so I am super happy about that). All in all, I really really enjoyed the story-telling that the movie did. The ending was all a bit abrupt (a la Lord of the Rings), but really, there weren't too many great mid-way cut-off points, so I guess they did what they could without making the movie super super LONG.

Now though it seems they've left all the action for part 2. So that movie is gonna have to hit the ground running and never stop. :yesss

After reading the book, I've decided to wait for part 2 to come out. Then we will get the video and watch them sort of together. I thought the first half of the book was slow.

We went and saw it on Friday night and I left kind of feeling "blah" about it. I am in the middle of re-reading the book and was surprised at how 'like' the book it was in many scenes. It seemed like there were lots of awkward scenes where I was not impressed with the acting. the further I get from it, I keep thinking of scenes that I thought were good and entertaining too and true to the entertainment aspect of the books that I love--the funny faces of Ron, the wit between the three friends, etc. The book is just so full of stuff that they could never fit it all in the movie.

In general, I haven't been huge fans of the movies....way too spoiled by the books.

Oooh we are going to see it tomorrow and I cannot wait! SO excited! I too am a book purist and usually end up feeling some disappointment when I see an HP movie. So I'm interested to see how I'll feel about this one. Good to know another purist feels they did a better job staying true to the book.

I'm trying to make a decision on whether it is too scary for my kids. Is it as intense as it looks on the preview? How would you rate the scare factor?

I realllllly want to see it. LOL

i loved it! i'm really not hard to please though lol! it's true that it's a bit slow in places. and i have a few picky little gripes. for example i really didn't like how Dumbledore's grave looked. will have to go reread the description but it just struck me as very underwhelming compared to what i remember from the book. maybe i'm wrong though?
anyway aside from a few little things i had a good time.

i thought the acting was a bit better than it's been in past movies. i didn't like the casting on Luna's father though.

i was surprised at where they ended it. definitely a lot sooner in the plot line than i was expecting. you are right rebecca - things are going to have to move pretty darn quick in the second part! unless they make it like 3.5 hours long. which i wouldn't complain about!

becky, i agree on a few awkward moments of acting... i think that has been a running theme through all of the movies... mostly by daniel radcliff. *sigh* what can you do. and too true, there are SOOOOOO many intricacies in the book, the character qualities and such that could NEVER be captured in a movie. but rupert does a fantastic job with ron i think! love him... he's my boyfriend. :)

laura, it depends on your kids' ages and tolerance to action and such. MOST of the movie is relatively docile and just builds up to the action at the end of the story. however, there are a few action scenes... pretty typcial to previous harry potter movies as far as intensity. and there was one part in godrick's hollow that i actually jumped (and then felt quite silly). i guess i would say THIS movie might not be so bad. my bigger consern would be, if i let my kids watch this one, they'll want to see the last one, and the last one is quite likely to have a lot of intensity in it.

michelle, i would rather they make it 3 1/2 hours long than skimp. don't you agree? they did it for LOR, they can do it for HP.

wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
i wanto to go this week... can´t wait to see but.......like Sara says...' I too am a book purist and usually end up feeling some disappointment when I see an HP movie.'
me too... lol

I loved it! Simple as that!
I've read all the books and normally I hate movies made from books, but I've loved most of the HP movies.

Rebecca, so funny about Ron being your boyfriend, you might have to fight me for him. He was brilliant in this!!

I loved it. I'm a bit underwhelmed, and am wondering if I should have done what you said Claire, wait till Part 2 comes out and watch Part 1 on video right before. I'll be a sobbing mess at the end of Part 2. I just know it. I'll miss these movies coming out so much.

I've read all the books (too many times to count, lol), and obviously the movies are never as good as the books, but I've enjoyed them all. I loved DH part 1 and can't wait for part 2. I'll watch all the movies again in the week before part 2 is out :)

tania i'm sure this will be me too. i cried at the end of the 3rd Lord of the Rings because it was over. :giggle I'm such a turd.

I actually just got in from seeing it tonight. I enjoy the movies, but no where near as much as the books. I found this movie a little slow at times but then jumpy at others, KWIM? I can't wait for the last one. I know it is going to be a really intense movie...
