I need a new "default" color. I have a beige I have always used, and I still love it, but I need a change.

Basically it will be for my hallways and stairways and dining room. Something neutral. I don't think I want grey, but it does need to work with my eggplant colored living room. I think that's the only room it would "touch".

What's your "go to" color?

Bonus points if it's from Sherwin since I get a discount there since my husband works for them. :giggle

My go to colors are also beige, but what about like a Sage green?

I have a big leather chair in my living room that is like celery green so I think green is off limits. LOL

I usually use Practical Beige. I was thinking of switching to Latte, but that will mean repainting everything that's already beige and I don't know if I'm up for that. I like painting but lets not get carried away.

My two favorite SW neutrals are Latte (which I actually have in my finished basement and LOVE) and Blonde (used at my last house). I would say that Latte is definitely more neutral while Blonde is a more buttery, warm neutral.

We're about to have our basement (re) finished and I think I'm going with Restrained Gold down there. I don't think that would work next to my plum, though. Argh.

Maybe I can go up one on the Practical Beige swatch. Would still work with my beige, but be a change.

I love Restrained Gold too. Isn't that one shade lighter than Blonde on the same swatch? Hmm. I do think those would work with Plum if it's a rich shade.

Yes, Restrained Gold is one shade lighter than Blonde.

Here's all the choices against my plum wall (it's raining so I had to take the picture right by the lamp, my wall doesn't normally come off as THIS shiny lol).

Practical Beige is what I have now. I like Latte a lot, but maybe it's too similar? And do I want my upstairs rooms / halls to be the same color as the basement, which is what I'm using Restrained Gold for?

I'm half tempted to just rage paint the whole first floor and start over but dats a lotta work. :rofl

Now that I stare at those, I'm thinking Latte is the way to go. The hall I'm painting doesn't touch the dining room, so maybe I can get away with leaving it Practical Beige.

go gray!!!
grays are the NEW neutral!!
and you can totally do a subtle gray that has a tanish tint to it!
my favorite is benjamin moore rivere pewter. sigh. love love!

I actually like Restrained gold with your Plum color but the Latte is a great choice too.... then again I love warm neutrals. I have grey's in my house but I'm not the one who put then there. lol! I like warm tones. Sorry, I guess I'm not much help.

I ab-so-LUT-ley suck at picking paint colors-- I can't visualize worth a darn and I'm terrified to commit to anything.
My $.02... Angie, I can't imagine you being connected with anything having the word "restrained" in the title. Just sayin'.

Here's another question... what finish do you all get? I've always gotten satin but I dunno if I love it.

From SW, I use the Duration Matte. We painted our entire interior of our new house with it 4 years ago and it's held up very well. Not cheap, but worth it.

I also like Restrained Gold, too.

I was going to suggest grey...

But with the swatches that you have, I agree with Renee and Carolee - I love the Restrained Gold with the Eggplant!

And as for finishes - I usually get eggshell. Not quite satin, not quite matte.

I get the employee discount, so price is not a concern! :giggle

Now I'm thinking of eventually redoing my purple to this color, because I saw it on Pinterest when I was looking up Latte and I love how they look together.
