So do you volunteer?

I used to be really involved in the Junior Chamber of Commerce. I worked my way up to state officer, attended international events, and everything. We did a ton of community projects, and personal development stuff as well. For awhile, I literally had something going *at least* 4-5 days a week (back when I was single). Now, not so much. I don't know if it is because I just finished school or what, but I've been thinking about getting out and involved especially in the area of social and racial justice (it is a passion of mine).

What about you? Do you volunteer? Help out at a school? Work with the elderly? Clean-up roadways? Community action? Fundraise? Do things with a church group? Hold rallies? Participate in online petitions?

First -- you finished school? YAY!
Me, I was super active at a women's recovery program. Then one staff member just because rude and I had to quit. I tried another department and just found they treated their volunteers and staff poorly. It kind of ruined volunteering for me. But I have had the urge to find somewhere new lately. It's just been too darn hot and busy to go check out places. Thanks for the nudge.

I used too, like crazy, all of the time! I was always room Mom, I worked in a very stressful public servant field, on and on. When I retired I took some time off and started donating to more charities to make up for my lack of contribution, but I do still help out at local soup kitchens and tons of community homeless work. Nothing like I should as blessed as I am in life to have a home. Such a small thing and so many without. sad.

I don't. Not that I wouldn't like to, but I have just never found the right balance of time with work, kids, etc. It is something I would love to do...maybe when my youngest is a little older and all my free time is not devoted to something related to him.

I'm an active volunteer at my girls' schools and at church. For the past few years, I've chaired the Carnival at the elementary school, which is a super fun day for the kids as well as big PTO fundraiser. I've also chaired the Grants committee at the high school for the last three years. I've been a room mom for a loooong time too. I've taught Sunday school off and on for years, which is something I really enjoy. I actually put myself on a volunteer hiatus for the upcoming school year. My oldest is graduating and I need the time to put towards all of her senior events.

Most of my volunteer stuff is related to church and school (with is attached to our church). I taught Sunday School for years and am in the choir at church so do that every Wednesday and on several Sundays a month. I also am on a Family Activities Team... yes we are the FAT team. Terrible name. Lol. We do a monthly movie night for the kids with pizza and popcorn and treats, etc. I help plan a big Halloween event at church each year and recently was asked to help decorate for VBS (vacation bible school) and they don't mess around with decorations... there's apparently a reputation to uphold! :giggle

I volunteer for an animal clinic and neutering program of stray dogs and cats. I work in their charity shop, ( in the secondhand book shop )1 day a week , more if some one is sick or if there is extra sorting to be done.

I volunteered for years with all the kids stuff. Playground/lunch supervisor, arts and crafts activities, coach, manager of all the teams for my kids sports. Community activities, etc. As they got older, work intervened and time available became less and less, until now as I look forward to retirement and grandchildren, and becoming active in these things once again.
For me - these are the things of life.

I really want to volunteer more. I haven't found a cause I truly click with. I have volunteered with the Susan G Komen 3 day for the cure, and LLS (Luekemia lymphoma society or something like that). I am sooooooo ready for my kids to be old enough to be involved in things so I can be the mom that does stuff.... though I'm concerned that I will lose the "me time" I have now for scrapping myself out of depression :/

I have done some on and off. I have brushed cats at a shelter, I've done event organizing and websites for various local interest groups, edited a non-profit's newsletter, and volunteered at Eurovision last year. Kristina, one of my co-volunteers at Eurovision brought her daughter. She was staffing a children's craft station, so it worked out well. :) Although I know with two, it's a different story!
