DH & I have a wedding to attend next Saturday and I'm still at a loss as to what to get the happy couple. I prefer doing a wicker basket of everyday items but I want to do something different.

What are some things new couples need or want? (This is the 1st marriage for both & they're both 27 yrs old).

Probably not much help here.. I'm boring... we always just go with a Target gift card. It's kind of lame, but I remember when I got married it was so fun to go shopping with all the cash/gift cards we received and pick out exactly what we liked.

If they don't have a registry, I would definitely do a gift card. I know we loved our cash/cards, etc to go get the stuff we didn't get and needed. :)

I second the gift card idea. But I love getting a basket of goodies for new couples especially young ones. They are just starting out and need alot.

I think a collection of cookbooks is a really fun gift, assuming one of them likes to cook. You could do a combination of an overall cookbook and a couple of specialty type books.

I usually just give cash, but I think the big spice gift box at Penzey's woulda rocked my world.

Gift cards are amazing-- My husband and I loved using those for things that we didn't realize we needed, or forgot to put on the registry.

Our other favorite gifts? Pyrex. SO much Pyrex. And we use it ALL. THE. TIME. Someone also made us a custom cornhole game in our college colors. That was super cool.

This might not work for them since they've both probably lives on their own for a long time, but when we got married my favorite gift was a basket full of Christmas decorations! We got married in September so I don't even know how our friend FOUND Christmas stuff that time of year, but it was so fun for our first Christmas to already have a few boxes of lights and a first Christmas ornament and a few other odds and ends to put out!

Someone also gave us a basket full of random household stuff ... a toilet plunger, fly swatter, scissors, tape, batteries, flashlight, first aid kit, bug spray, etc. all wrapped in a tall kitchen trash can. As weird as it is, that was SUCH a great gift to get because those were things we would have never thought to have on hand! And most of those are things we still have and use, 14 years later!

Aside from that, we loved gift cards. We used them to buy all the things we didn't get from our registry.

im with angie i usually put cash in the card and i appreciate cash back so i can get what i want and karah i know they only meant well but the every day items like toilet plunger etc,i wouldn't of been able to hide my dissapointment lol sorry maybe thats why i give cash lol

^^ OMG ROFL

I'd do a giftcard, I usually prefer a "real" gift, but for weddings and such I either do registry or giftcards :)

well i'm getting married in a few weeks and I can tell you I really hope I get cash instead of gifts! lol

everyone's different though and it really depends on their situation . .. we are paying for our own little wedding and we're doing an expensive honeymoon so cash would be really helpful for us. plus with only 6 weeks notice and about 25 guests coming I didn't want to bother with registering anywhere. if they are registered and/or their parents are paying for the wedding then maybe a gift works better
