When my husband and I started dating, we were poor college students and decided to get a Super Nintendo to play together. I figured it would be cheaper than going to the movies every weekend and save us from the hours we would spend at the video store, trying to pick out a movie to watch. (I am not much of a movie watcher and generally he had already seen most of them, so we always had a hard time picking one out.)
These days, we have an old TV dedicated to all the old game consoles that we picked up over the years. I'm not sure which ones are currently hooked up to the TV, but off the top of my head, in addition to the Super Nintendo, we also had a Sega Genesis (with 32X attachment), a Sega CD, a Sega Dreamcast (one of my favorites), a 3DO, a Nintendo 64, an original Playstation, a Playstation One, a PS2 and an original XBOX.
The kids mostly play on either the XBOX 360 (with Kinect) or the Wii U. We also have the original Wii and two PS3s (they used to be one of the better BluRay players.) We never got a Game Cube, although we have a couple of games now because the Wii can play them.
We don't have any plans to buy any more consoles -- we aren't into playing online and that seems to be the direction the industry is moving. There never were a lot of the games that I like to play -- bright action/adventure/platform -- and there seem to be even fewer of that kind now.
