Pad Patter: 8/10 - First Job

My first job was at a dog groomer's place, and I washed dogs. I was 15. That lasted for most of a summer.
When I was in high school I tried out a few different jobs before I gave up. I remember one was in an office that was a little far for me to reach on my own--I walked in one day with a friend who dropped me off, and there they were, training another girl to do my job. I think I was secretly relieved, but I was mortified. Then there was the brief (one week) job I got at a clothing store downtown. The manager didn't know what she wanted, or what she should have been doing, and was awful. She asked me to arrange some clothing one way, and the next day, everything was different, and she told me I'd done it the wrong way (she was there the whole time, the witch) and had it redone. Yeah. Then I worked for a few summers for Park and Recreation during college.

Aside from babysitting - I worked at a small, family-owned pharmacy where my mom worked (and still does). I worked on the front counter and eventually learned how to fill prescriptions.

first job was helping along as a receptionist in my dad's garage (started young for the fun of it at around age 12 or so, but around 14-15 I started making some money there)... make appointments, order car-parts and stuff like that. I loved it! Then... a paper or flyer route, cassier in a supermarket, and some other small jobs.

Ain't that the truth. When I was 16, I worked FULL TIME. lol

Crazy right? It's like practically unheard of these days. I don't remember if I worked full time there per se, but I know I worked quite a bit. I didn't last there long, I hated it. They were awful to me. They nitpicked every last thing I did, right down to the tone of my voice on the microphone when I called orders back! My next job after that was as a dishwasher in a nice restaurant. It was hard work, but the owners were sooo nice to me. And I got free dinner every night. It was awesome!

Whether I had good experiences or bad though, I think it was good for me. I'm a good worker at my job now and people rely on me to help get the work done. It's a good feeling. I definitely want my kids to go out and get jobs as early on as they can.

working as a hostess. That didn't last long though. I was only 15 and I had no idea what was really going on. I quit...then drove for an auto parts company when I turned 16. I went all around town and delivered the parts...got to see a lot of really cute guys, flirt, etc...not a lot of actual working went on!

I worked at a chiropractor's office filing records, stocking vitamins and sorting papers. It was every day after school from 3:00-5:30. I started working there when I was 14 so someone had to drive me there and pick me up.

I was a strapper (yes that is with an 'a"!) for a show jumper. We went to a show (town/state Fair I guess) every weekend for a couple of years - not much money but great fun. After the first couple, I didn't bother going near the rides/showbags, all gets a bit the same very quickly. Loved the travel and got to meet some amazing people.

Went on to work in the kitchen of a local club, not nearly as much fun but at least I got paid a bit more...

I was a big time babysitter and as soon as I was legally able, I also worked part time at a local mom/pop pharmacy working at the counter and with the pharmacists. In the summers, I worked as a camp counselor and as a valet.

I was the babysitter for my sister and older cousins since I was the youngest of all of them. Other than that, I had my first job during college working in the medical records department of a hospital on the weekends. It wasn't all that fun...but definitely interesting..and I had a chance to get some homework done. :)

Apart from babysitting, I worked as a special needs assistant at a small town preschool. My main job was to look after a boy who was blind and deaf. Challenging, but rewarding job.

My first job was in a corner store, I was 14 or 15. LOVED it since I got to work with my big sister (she is 5 years older then me)

Babysitting was my first gig. Saved up and bought a new truck... then worked as a carhop at Sonic - my tips each month paid my truck notes. Those were the days. :D
