So, my daughter is scouring through the new American Girl catalog starting on her Christmas List :giggle and it got me thinking about my favorite childhood toys.

It's honestly difficult for me to remember at this point, but I did love my Cabbage Patch kid although mine was a totally homemade version (that did not look very much like the actual brand named doll :( )

And I have distinct memories of my Barbies. I still own many of them but they are considered "old" and out of date by my DD, mainly because they do not look like any characters that can be seen in a Barbie Movie. That Barbie really knows how to market herself and keep herself "fresh".

I have memories of Lite Brite, that ball that has a ring you can put around one ankle and jump over (what was that thing called?) and that huge Head that you used to pretend to be a Cosmetologist, hehe. Loved that Head and all of her barrettes (she looked like Barbie as well, come to think of it).

So, what about you? What do you remember?

Sadly, the only one I remember distinctly is Skipper .... Barbie's sister! She was my pride of place and my joy :) don't have her anymore though! You did a good job of taking care of your Barbies! :)

My absolute hands down favorite toy that I can remember as a kid in the 80's is Fashion Plates!!!!

Mine wasn't a toy but an activity. I LOVED playing dress-ups. I used my mom's crocheted tablecloth (much to her chagrin as it took her FOREVER to make it). I used scarves and a few of my mom old dresses. Boy, I could spend hours playing that all by myself.

I loved Fashion Plates and before that, Strawberry Shortcake dolls - the Lemon Meringue was my favorite. I had out some lemongrass oil to use last week and the smell took me straight back to that doll with her super-yellow hair :)

I lucked out and got one of the first Cabbage Patch dolls during the insane craze of that first pre-Christmas rush. My uncle worked with a woman who won a lottery chance to buy one. She had six grandkids and couldn't just buy one doll, so she let him have it. :) But I never really played with it. Then my step-dad went and threw it away at some point. Ugh.

My favorite "toy" was an old manual typewriter that my grandma had at her house. I lugged that thing around even though it probably weighed almost as much as I did at the time. I had it with me all of the time and type up little stories or fake news articles and stuff. Lots of fun.

I also used to use my allowance to buy order pads that waitresses use. I loved to pretend to take orders. I'm so over that. LOL.

Oh man. Y'all are gonna hate cause "she's so young....." lol.... i loved lite brite. And rainbow bright on tv. I didn't start collecting barbies until I was about 10, when the Olympics were in Atlanta ('96?) and there was the gymnast barbie. I don't really remember a lot of toys besides that.

No not going to hate cause you girls are so young. But I was an adult that year Cabbage Patch Kids were sold! Auck I feel old. Oh well. Can't remember my favorite toy right now. But I bought a Chatty Cathy a couple years ago (now I'm showing my age) which is the same year I have a picture of me holding (one year her hand was different).

oh oh oh oh oh!!!!
I have ALWAYS loved to read. And I still have the first set of books I remember getting as a present when I was 4 years old. I am only missing 1 or 2 of the whole set. It was an alphabet group of books.... "this is my A book" "this is my B book".... I know I am missing one of the numbers. Anyway, I have all of them in my hope chest, and may possibly give them to my kids when they are old enough to stop ripping pages out of books. :giggle

Chatter, a stuffed monkey, i did a layout awhile back on it.

hey I didn't know points were involved! Just kidding. At least Cath knows who Chatty Cathy is.

Oh yes, definitely Strawberry Shortcake, Barbie and Cabbage Patch dolls.

My brother and I had an awesome Lionel train set with a real, working steam engine that blew smoke and everything. We loved that set and reconfigured the tracks and depots endlessly.

I was totally into Barbies and My Little Poney!!! I still love them by the way!!! ;-)

i have my sister's first doll, 52 years old it is. All i have from my childhood is acouple 45's and Dr Suess books, i wrote a boys name on or in. I would have loved chattter, my barbies etc

I had a Chatter stuffed monkey too! He was my best friend but I lost him in a house fire when I was 5. One of the first conversations I had with my husband when we started dating, we realized that we both owned one back then. So sweet ♡
True story: I always wanted an Easy Bake oven but never got one even after being on my list for several years, haha! I bought one for my daughter when she was 3 or 4 (crazy) and we "tested" it Christmas Eve. You know....to make sure it function properly. :p

Oh my goodness, this is bringing back so many memories! I loved my Barbies, Strawberry Shortcake dolls and my 1 cabbage patch doll. Loved Fashion Plates, lite bright and I had that HEAD you are talking about Jen, but didn't really like it and I also don't remember what it was called.

I was also obsessed with anything Hello Kitty or really cute stationary/desk/office type items ( the precursor to today's scrapbooking industry ???) I also loved and collected/traded stickers ... especially the scratch n sniff ones. Good Times.

AHHHHH!!! Sticker books! I had forgotten about them. I was obsessed. I think you're right, clearly a foreshadowing of scrap obsession. LOL

Ohmygoodness I forgot about sticker books! LOVED them! It was one of my only childhood toys and hobby interests that didn't revolve around animals or sports. I did have a love for cards and stationery and pens. But mostly I was a collector of stuffed animals (had a huge collection of teddy bears) and baseball cards. I remember putting on "plays" for my parents with my favorite stuffies of the day. :giggle

Oh my....I remember how badly I wanted Chatty Cathy when she first came out. Now she is in her 50's and when I watched this commercial I thought...wow..she is kinda creepy..Of course she was way before Chucky and the slew of killing machine dolls ROFLMAO! Take a peek if you dare....hahahaha..(creepy laugh track)

Chatty Cathy link to her commercial from the late 50's

But for her time she was amazing..I believe she was the very first "talking" doll.
