So... my DH took off from work this week Wed - Fri so we could have a "Staycation". I actually took vacation days as well for this much advertised family time.

Guess what the big plan is? WORK. :thumbsdowns

Yep, he has huge ideas for ALL of us, from the youngest kid on up. Clearing some land. Resodding the backyard. Cleaning up just about everything outside (and suggesting a full cleaning on the inside as well). Staining the deck. Cleaning gutters. Holy Smokes, his list is long.

At 9am, he was fussing at the kids because they were still being "lazy" in the house, eating muffins I made (yay for mom). As I type, I can feel his eyes on me from the backyard :rofl

Staycation Punk is what I say!

So, have you ever taken off from work to work? hehe.
Do you Staycation (for real)?
What have you done on a Staycation?
Do you use your kids as slave labor just because you can? LOL.

Let's hear about it! Gotta run...

I have done both. We've gotten a hotel on the other side of town, just to be out of the house.... and I've taken time off so I can do housework. Tomorrow, I do not have to work, and this weekend we are thinking about cleaning up some of our office/craft room space.

On the upside, he has motivation to get things accomplished. In my house, this is extremely hard to come by, 85% of the time.

I will also say.... when I find motivation to do something like that, I get irritated when my family doesn't have the same enthusiasm/motivation to help. Lol (I know it is irrational, especially if I didn't prepare anyone for it ahead of time)

THIS is my husband. ummm... when I get in the mood to scrub toilets (well, maybe that's a bad example) I don't expect everyone to sing a happy song and scrub along with me :giggle

Well it's more like.... don't get in my way while I'm cleaning the toilets. And, you should go find another area of the house to be cleaning while I'm doing this.

Not, sit on your behind and watch me do everything, or mess it up immediately after. ... but i have toddlers. ;-(

My hubby isn't the most motivated (inside the house) and he's not into big projects these days. The garden is his main focus at the moment. I'm not even sure if/when he has any vacation planned, but we don't really take vacations (or staycations). We went to Disneyland last October, but that was it for as long as I can remember. I had to go to grad school in 2009 in order to get a "vacation" because I was forced to travel for my residencies. :giggle

My daughter is taking a staycation at the end of July, so technically, I should be on vacation as well, but that won't happen. LOL. I do have a day planned to rent a truck so we can get rid of our couch (long story) and purge a bunch of other things as well because I can't take the clutter anymore. That is my one goal this year (besides finishing my current Masters).

I keep daydreaming of snagging up a Groupon deal to Italy or Ireland, but I don't think that is going to happen.

My cousin planned a staycation one year that was really cool. She researched things to do (Minneapolis/St Paul so lots) and mapped out a plan. I've tried but it doesn't work.
I would not be happy either. I would be tempted to say I'm on vacation let's eat out at the very least!

Kimberlee I did the same thing -- graduate school and made residency a vacation before and after. Finishing up my degree in 8 weeks!

I have to say. This is quite a mental image Jen.:giggle

lol Lindzee!

We don't usually take staycations - only because we have a few options for quick weekends or vacations in Virginia and Florida if we need to take some time. Most of our vacations are actual vacations. If I took a staycation at home, I wouldn't do much of anything, lol!

We are actually planning a summer "vacation" at the shore in August. I put vacation in quotes... cause we are there all the time, and even more so in the summer. So, it will seem like a staycation - yet, we are not at home. It's my parent's shore house, and it's got all the comforts, a few houses from the beach, little shops and things to do. So, a sorta staycation. :P

we did this a lot when we first bought our home, it was brand new, so there was SO much to do inside and out. mostly we did projects around the outside to get the home feeling like ours. my DH and I talked about it first, so we were at least on the same page and both of us were excited and motivated .... but i have to admit, on a smaller scale, i get a little like your husband and just go into a frenzy at times where I want things cleaned and organized!!! i make my family a bit miserable, randomly & unexpectantly dolling out the chores to any nearby unsuspecting victim. it usually only lasts as long as i can before collapsing, so about 8 hours or so. then everyone is off the hook and i am back to normal. haha! all be it with a freshly clean house!!! yay!

We are on a two-week staycation, and I like to do a bit of each. Our first day was spent cleaning and finding toys to sell or donate. The next day we went to an amusement park. I wouldn't want to work the WHOLE two weeks. Yikes! Right now, the girls are with their grandparents, so it's extra lazy day for us 'rents! :D

Work-cation update. Day 3. Kids woke up this morning asking (in a hopeful tone of voice) "Is Daddy going to work today?" :giggle

No, kids, no he is not. In fact, he is outside already and it is only because of the pleading of your most awesome mother that he didn't drag your tails out of bed at 7am to join him. You are welcome.

Now, let's get to work. LOL.

i feel your pain- this is the main problem with stay-cationing here - DH is the same and i feel like there's no 'cation' when he's off work here cos he can't handle being idle and has not mastered the art of doing nothing - we are waiting for roof gutter repair people as we speak, he's buying paint for the loungeroom and making computer cable tidy units in the garage, having already cleared a bunch of 'weeds' (aka. still 'plants' to me) from the yard. My staycation would be sitting here scrapping, sometimes i think about booking myself and my laptop into a hotel nearby for my own staycation or at east not cooking for a few nites in a row...
