Do you ride a bike? As a kid? Now?

I've recently gotten into cycling a bit and I'm quite enjoying it! Yesterday I did a RACE which was a bit nerve wracking as there are all these rules about how close you can be and how long you have to pass someone and so on. But I also do some fun organized rides. 25 miles at your own pace and there's always food at the end. Pretty fun!

what a coincidence! i spent my weekend trying to make my DD learning how to ride a bike without training wheels!! well i think we'll need another weekend but was fun! i think i'll do it more often with her :)

Angie, I am constantly in awe of all the athletic activities you do! I am not surprised you do organized bike racing as well.

You are amazing!

I loved to bike as a kid, and I still love to. The only problem is that I don't do it often. Last summer my daughter Jennah and I went out quite a bit, but this year not even once yet. We just moved, and I am just not familiar enough with the neighborhood. I guess the only way to get familiar is to get out there. I would never do a race - I don't like to go too fast - I'm pretty much a weenie, lol.

Haven't rode in such a long time.....like when I was a kid! My 27 y/o son has 2 bikes....one for street riding and one for mountain biking.

Me too!! I found the cutest little eggshell blue Schwin and decked it out with Hello Kitty decals and stuff. She was super excited! I think it will take her a bit to feel totally comfortable on it, but she was excited to be on a "big girl" bike.

My own bike is gathering dust and cobwebs. There is something wrong with the mechanism that changes gears. I keep meaning to take it to a bike shop. Maybe I'll do that today. :)

We love to ride as a family... my oldest can ride on his own now and the younger two go in the bike trailer. Except last fall some big meanie STOLE our bikes!!! Grrr. I still get really angry when I think about it. DH bought a new bike this spring but I have yet to replace mine. I'd really like to soon so we can go out together this summer. But he's been taking the kids on bike trips about once a week. We have a great trail really close that follows the river, it's perfect.

Don't get too excited, Stacy. I was 93/149 on the bike portion of that. 99/149 on the first 2 mile run and 77/149 on the last 2 mile run.

Clearly my strength is in the end game? Haha

I wish I had a bike to ride.

I rode around the neighborhood a lot in middle school and was proud that I learned how to ride no handed. Once I got to high school, it was, of course, uncool and there was no place close by to ride to, anyway.

DH has my dad's old hand-me-down bike and SS has a bike, but us gals are SOL.

I rode a bike a lot as a kid, but haven't in years. The last time I tried, I was on vacation in Miami. I couldn't stay on the thing. So I do not believe that saying "it's like riding a bicycle!"

as a kid... all the time!!

now... we love to take family bike rides. we live about a mile from a lake, so biking/spillway to the lake is always fun. and there are bike trails all over around here that go to parks or through wildlife reserves. love it! sometimes i'll just bike for a bit of me time.

well we learn how to ride a bike in here in the Netherlands asap...LOL. I think I was 3,5 when I could ride without side-wheels. I haven't ride my bike for years, but the more since I got a beautiful mommy-bike for my B-Day last year and lina looooves it! Not to work though, cause it's too far away, but when doing small grocery's, visit the parc and such

I like to ride, but DH doesn't, so our bikes sat out and got rusty. I'm thinking about getting another though, and just doing it without him. :p

I've always ridden a bike until my SI issues after the twins were born. But . . . like Amanda in an earlier comment, we just started teaching our AMP (absent minded professor) how to ride w/o training wheels. :)

I resurrected my 20 year old Bianchi earlier this year. It lived in a shipping box for about 15 of those years. I rode it a fair amount when I first bought it in my late twenties, but after I traveled and had kids, I gave up bike riding for a while. Now I have enough time with both kids in school, but man, the drivers in LA are scary, and even though I bought a new seat for it, it STILL kills my butt after a couple of miles. I love bike riding, though. It feels like flying.

Oh yeah--and I used to ride my bike all the time when I was a kid. I didn't have a car, and my mom rarely drove me anywhere if she was home. Luckily, we lived only a mile from downtown.

Oh man! We live on our bikes in the summer. We live in a smallish beach town and in the summer the parking is ridiculous, especially at the beach. It's only 1.5 miles to the beach and downtown, so we always just ride our bikes. This is the first summer that my youngest has been on his own bike, so I thought that might slow us down, but not at all! We go all over the place almost daily! :) Of course, we certainly aren't racing anyone to get there! Somehow the bikes always seem to stop at the ice cream shop on the way home too. Weird!

It's so funny...I had a totally different experience. We were visiting friends a couple of weekends ago and their teenage son had his bike out. I haven't ridden a bike since I was probably about 12 or so, so I asked if I could try his bike for a bit to see if it is really "like riding a bicycle". I was so amazed that I was able to stay on it with no balance issues at all, in the grass, on a hill and I rode in circles (lol I wouldn't be winning any races though either). Makes me wanna go buy one, unfortunately we've never had good luck trying to teach DD to ride, she would just get totally scared. She's been asking for one again (she's 11) so maybe it's time to try again. There are a couple of really nice bike paths near here so we would have great places to ride if we could just get her comfy on a bike.
