Pad Patter: 6/24 - Kids Birthdays

birthdays are HUGE in my family... well, on my side... not so much on DH's - his birthday was on Friday and only 3 people called him. :(

As a kid, I always had parties and since my birthday was in October, it was lumped with my mom's favorite holiday, Halloween. My kiddo is 6, so we have only had family parties... but I go ALL OUT on the theme... trying to be a bit more unique and on a topic he is currently excited about... Weatherman Theme (unexpected at his party was that we had a local news camera crew there filming, thanks to one of the meterolgists from a tv studio tour kiddo was invited to because of his obsession on weather!), kiddo airlines (he was going on his first airplane ride that year - he dressed up as a pilot for the party and we served sandwiches in to-go containers and the favors were peanuts and pretzels - my favorite party I've done - haha), Men's Ties (when kiddo wore a tie every day), chicka chicka boom boom/alphabet party, rubber ducky... oh man, do I love throwing a kid theme party!! haha

We homeschool, so kiddo is always meeting new kids at events... doesn't really have any close buds yet... this year we are joining a homeschool group and we'll see if there are kids he clicks with and then we might throw a secondary, just of kids party... have until March to see if that comes to light. :)

when the kids were younger, we did family birthdays - like extended family. grandparents and cousins and so forth. since we have a LOT of family members, these parties got pretty big, but they were nothing fancy... here's some food, cake and ice cream. some balloons and we called it a party.

Now, we let the kids have a party where they invite their friends. mostly this has also taken place at our house, and they just hang out and play and have fun until it's time to go home. Sebastian had a bowling party for his 12th bday with a small group of friends. That's about as big as we get around here.

We do also do a family dinner. The birthday person picks where, and we go out to eat together as a family.
