It's summer and I'm always hearing about "summer reading". I'm talking about for grown-ups, not the list our kids bring home :giggle

Here's my question. Does anyone actually read MORE over the summer? Is it b/c of vacations that people say that? I find that I have WAY LESS time to read in the summer (because of the above mentioned little people).

Do you read for pleasure? If so, what's your favorite genre? And what are you reading now? Do you recommend it?

I love to read. All kinds of books, but especially historical fiction, mystery or romance (yep, I'm that girl). I have to read a lot for work so like to read really frivolous stuff when it's on my own time.

How about you?

I read more in the summer because I am out of school. I mostly enjoy reading books about education and leadership...I'm a nerd, LOL.

I don't read more in the summer.... waaay too busy with work, travel, son home from school, etc. Recently had a vacation to D.C. and other than a couple hours on the plane, found myself on the go constantly.

I do, however, read and listen to audio books year-round. I love suspense, action, romance, some paranormal romance, mysteries. I don't enjoy emotional reads or books that are realistic or "make you think" - for me reading is a way to step away from real life and escape the pressures.

I just finished The Forgotten Room by Lincoln Child. LOVED it!

I read way more in the summer. I think it is because I'm on a bunch of waiting lists at the library and other people don't read, so the books cycle through faster or something. LOL.

I can read pretty fast, and finish most books in a couple of hours, so that is helpful. But I'm in my M.Ed thesis crunch at the moment, so I'm not getting as much reading in. I did manage to read Stephen King's newest, and then one that Jules told me about called A Lifetime of Secrets that I picked up at the library and read before bed last night. I have about five others from the library that I need to get though in the next three weeks (not that I think I will).

I don't necessarily have a particular genre that I do read... there is just a list of things I *don't* read. I guess most books I read fall into literature or mainstream fiction with some memoir thrown in for good measure. I also like to read sociological/psychological non-fiction. I think my reading tastes match my tv/movie watching tastes. Lots of legal or mystery. Funny things or family drama. Not much for historical fiction or romance. I also read a lot of poetry (my previous degree is in that). I would love to read every day if I could, but constant interruptions don't allow for that. And I swear, my hubby has a she-has-a-book-in-her-hand detector and will bug me before I get a page or two read. I have to wait until he isn't here or in bed before I can read. LOL.

I am not a big reader, regardless of season. When I do "read" it's audiobooks, because my eyes struggle with large amounts of text. I kinda go in phases where I'll listen to a bunch and then I don't for a while. I'm going back to grad school later this year, so I'll probably be listening to more during my commutes. I mostly like nonfiction and satire, but I sample other stuff sometimes.

can you believe I am still reading a Cecilia Ahern book I started 3 months ago? In between the CT scrapping, my health, Sarita's health, the financial situation and reading the classes.... I haven't had time (or will ) to read more than a couple of pages every now & then.....
I need to catch up here for sure, so I may finish sometime next month LOL on top of things, I realize I don't even know the name (the down side of Kindle to me)- Ok I looked it up, is called The Time of My Life- I bought it for £0.99 (like 99 pennies/cents-) and usually Cecilia Ahern books are VERY expensive here...
I just bought also a Dana Stabenow book...cant remember the same but is a Kate Shugak (detective novel) and I really look forward to reading that!!!

I find that I read less in the summer because the kids are up later and we are out doing stuff more together so I don't get to bed as early. I don't read during the day much anymore because, like others have said, too many interruptions. I read every night when I go to bed. If it's a really good book... I stay up too late and pay for it the next day. :giggle

I just finished book three of the Bronze Horseman series which I love. And I just finished another book 3 in the Raven Boys series. That one took me FOREVER to plow through and then I was SO mad at the end to find out that it's not the last book and I read it for nothing. I just wanted to find out how one part ended and they still haven't resolved anything. Blah! Now I'm reading The Goldfinch. So far I'm liking it.

Just finished "Cop town" by Karin Slaughter, I liked it a lot, not as bloody as some of her others, ( a good thing )
Have now started a Faye Kellerman called murder 101 , so far I like it.
Have about 10 free books on the Kindle too to go through among them the 4th volume in the Advocate series ( like them a lot )
And Tony treated me to 2 Karen Rose books ( the last 2 ) so I am like in heaven right now...
I read way more in summer, it gets to hot to do much else in the middle of the day.

We are totally TWINSIES! I :heartslub Audible.com and listen all the time in the car/cleaning/cooking/ignoring kids :giggle

And I totally agree with the not wanting to think too hard, LOL. I like my entertainment to be entertaining. And if there is no happy ending, I get flat out MAD. I refuse to watch depressing movies or read sad books. No time for that nonsense. There are enough tears in real life, for heaven's sake. So, am I totally shallow? :whistle

Nope, not shallow. Life is too short to read bad books! Not interested in sad books myself, either.

I used to be a HUGE reader. I would read a couple books a week. I've slowed down quite a bit in the past few years. I'm just too tired to read and prefer napping/sleeping over reading. Recently though I've reasoned with myself that I really need to get back into reading. So I've been working to read at least a chapter in a book each night.

Right now I'm reading Percy Jackson #4. I started rereading all of the Percy Jackson books so I can refreshed with the whole story line when I read the latest one in the series. You know the one I may or may not have gotten for my birthday in December and haven't read :(

As you can tell I like Juvenille Fiction/Young Adult right now. Mainly the reason behind that is because I need to preread a ton of books before my daughters & son can read them. I like to know what my kids are reading. Other than that I'm not too picky about what I read as long as it isn't over the top gory, romantic, boring or just plain weird. Oh and a random quirks about my reading.....If I start a series I must finish it, even if I hate the books. I need closure.<----That's spelled wrong isn't it?! Let me tell you I wanted to gouge my eyes out when reading the Golden Compass series :(

I love books, but there aren't enough hours in the day for me to read and scrap. So I'm another who listens most of the time (Kindle Text to Speech, Audible, and audio books from the library). I listen year round while I do housework (daytime) and scrap (mostly after the kids are asleep). In the summer I lose some of that daytime chore listening since the kids are around and ALWAYS talking to me, but I still have after bedtime.
