Have you ever restored furniture?

I bought a hideous piece for $20 over a year ago and am finally working on it. So far I LOVE it. I made my own chalk paint and it's going to be a gorgeous blue color. Today I add the glaze.

Well, I don't know about restored, but two summers ago I took a super old dresser that had been badly paint several times and I stripped it down to bare wood, then primed it and painted it an awesome turquoise blue. I also took two of the top drawers out and boxed those in with plywood and made it an entertainment center. I took SO long to strip all that old paint that I had to hesitate for a second before painting it again, but I'm so glad I did. I love how it turned out. I still smile when I walk by it every time! :)

Wow, Karen, your chest is gorgeous. Angie, can't wait to see yours. I've never tackled a project this big, only little things a looong time ago.

Wow! You did a fabulous job on that dresser, Karen! Love how you've left two of the top drawers out, really adds a lot of character to the overall look of the finished piece!

As for me no, I don't typically restore well, uhm ... anything. I leave that to hubby. He's extremely talented when it comes to stuff like that. The last piece he restored was a table. Paid $10 for it at a garage sale and after restoration he sold it for $250. :) :)

Wow! Amazing, Karen!! :) I've never taken anything like this on, but my mom used to do it all the time.. Maybe that's why I never do, because I know how much work it is, lol.. :giggle.. I do love a good before/after though.. :)

I love that! I redid my childhood dresser. It was a dark brown stain. I painted it black and added turquoise and glass pulls. It was fun but now I want to redo it and use chalk paint. I love Annie Sloan's stuff!

I restored a dresser my mom gave me years and years ago. I stripped several coats of paint...then repainted all but the top and distressed the paint. I left the top natural. After my daughter finished using it I stored my rubber stamps in it.

I did this chest that I found at a flea market for $65. painted it white - stenciled the drawers - new knobs. It was fun.

I have a table I am in the middle of now. My son did the easy removal, I have to get in there and do the rest, so I can paint it RED!! it is going in our not yet constructed dining room (that is our enclosed patio at the moment). I have a plan in my head! lol

I used to paint/repaint/stain lots of old furniture as a young married. I have wanted to do some more recently with antiques and have a half stripped old desk in my garage. I am in awe of what you did with that big chest and ALL those drawers, Karen. What products did you use to strip it. That is such a beautiful piece of furniture. You made it look like it was brand new wood. I love the stenciling you did, Ashley. I have done stenciling on built in vanities that I repainted and loved how it looked too.

I have not... but those restorations look wonderful! I would have to start with a super small undertaking to get my feet wet.

I have never done anything like that! I grew up in a big city and there just wasn't space. People just throw away old furniture. I do love seeing other people do stuff like this, though! It's amazing how much life you can breathe into an old piece of furniture just by giving it new paint and some new knobs!

i've done a few things.

once i did this bench:

here's what it looked like before (you can at least see how worn it was):

I want to do my entire kitchen using Annie Sloan's paints.

Thanks Amber! My husband thought I was nuts when I went for the bright blue, but he really liked it when it was all done!

I used this product to strip the old paint:

Worked really well too!

Ashley! I love your dresser re-do too! So pretty!

wow ... love the dressers and bench! gorgeous projects ladies!!!

i redid a few projects over the years too ... a childhood dreseser, my great grandmothers old twin bed, a few end tables ... and even redid a few ugly brass chandelier transformations ... it's been awhile though since i did a project like that. it is rewarding though!
