Now that our kids are 8 and 10, we have started revisiting some of those family classic movies of the 80s. So far we have watched ET, The Princess Bride, Ferris Buellers Day Off and Never Ending Story.

What are some classic family movies that you loved or have recently revisited?

The Princess Bride is a longtime favorite in our household. When DD was three and at the mall with her daddy she walked up to some random guy and decared "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father. Prepare to die." DH said the poor guy just had a look of total and utter confusion.

80s movies we've watched other than the ones you've mentioned

The Karate Kid
The Goonies
Ghostbusters

We've watched ET, The Princess Bride and Ghostbusters, too. We also tried watching the Labyrinth. To say my kids didn't get it would be an understatement. But, they've all shown great interest in old cartoon movies, like Transformers, Care Bears, etc.

Seems like I really like The Neverending Story at about that age. I haven't watched it in a long time though... I think I'm going to let my kiddos start watching a few of these too! Great thread! :)

i'm still totally stuck in the 80's!
in addition to those mentioned we love :
the original Star Wars trilogy ♥ i've seen Empire about 7,000 times.
The Dark Crystal
Willow
Real Genius
Pee Wee's Big Adventure
Crocodile Dundee
Beetlejuice
Overboard
Indiana Jones
Weird Science
The Last Starfighter
Big
Oh Heavenly Dog
Inner Space
all the John Hughes films
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure

:lmao That's hysterical Sarah!

Connor (he's 11) and I have recently watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Back to the Future, ET, Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones (Temple of Doom). Then there's the old 80s TV shows....Quantum Leap, MacGyver, SNL episodes from the 80s.

I'll tell you, it sure brings back the memories when I watch these old movies & shows.

My nieces want to come over for a Star Wars marathon. We have been talking about it for months, but haven't been able to work it out. :) I wonder if they've seen The Princess Bride - that's one of my all time faves. And they need to see the Muppet movies - all of them!

We introduced the Sandlot to our kids over the weekend, and they watched it twice! We hardly even watch movies, so it was a big deal they liked it so much! I had forgotten how awesome that movie is! Plus, I've got two of my three boys playing baseball right now, it was so fun! My 10 yr old LOVES Princess Bride! He was bugged by the name of it a few years ago, but we talked him into watching it and it's one of his favorite movies and he quotes it on a regular basis, it brings me joy! :)

You calling all those movies "classics" just made me want to slit my wrists. :giggle

Um... Star Wars. lol
I don't really like many 80s movies.

Now, what we like to watch together are bad 50s and 60s horror and science fiction movies. And silent horror movies. Ryan particularly loves Them and Nosferatu.

LOL as soon as I saw classics my mind went to the old b&w movies and hollywood musicals....yeah it's weird to think of the 80s as classic.

LOL! I was thinking about really old movies too, like Casablanca or Gone With the Wind. My older niece does like the Wizard of Oz!

ahhh, The Princess Bride. That one is one that my kids don't appreciate but I could watch once a week!

I'm surprised your kids don't like it! It was one of my boys favorite movies when they were young, and they watched it at all their birthday parties. It's still a favorite and we quote lines from it all the time!

When I think of 80's movies, I think John Cusack. Better Off Dead and One Crazy Summer are my faves. But they're probably for slightly older kids.

looove Better Off Dead and Heathers too.... but those are both probably for a bit older... it's hard for me to remember when i watched all this stuff - the first time around.

my boys are 6 & 3 and go crazy for the (original) Clash of the Titans :]

I completely forgot about Better Off Dead. I want my two dollars!

And the original Clash of the Titans....my brother and I watched that movie over and over when we were kids (on VHS tape of course :lol ).
