We love berry picking, apple picking, anything picking!!!! I can't wait for summer to be here to start going to farms. What is your favorite "pick-your-own" item?

Btw. We loved going during December to pick strawberries in Texas! It felt weird because it was December, but they were good.

I don't think I've ever picked my own anything! I looked a while back and all the places you need a car to get to. Maybe we can go with some friends some time.

when the kids were younger we loved going to pick your own farms for berries or peaches ... whatever was in season, we'd take it! now we just do apples in sept.

i have good memories of "pick your own" with the kids, when they were young, and the radio flyer wagon in tow. my daughter was usually sitting it in, like a princess on a tuffet, pointing to the fruit she wanted us to pick for her! lol.

We live in the "fruit belt" of Michigan, so we do a lot of fruit picking. Apples, strawberries and blueberries are my favorites. Peaches fresh off the tree is the absolute best thing in the world though. We had a few peach trees as kids and my mouth is watering just thinking about how sweet and delicious those peaches were. The ones in the stores that ripen after being picked just aren't the same. Pears are pretty fun too.

We used to play "pear-ball" instead of baseball as kids. We had about 5 giant pear trees along the edge of our property and nobody could eat that many pears, so tons of them would get over-ripe and just fall to the ground. We get our bats and use those squishy pears as balls. The further the pieces exploded the further you were allowed to run the bases. :giggle

We have loads of pick your owns... my favorite is the fall for pumpkins, lol! We have lots of orchards and small farms/gardens, and loads of them by me. (Central NJ) There is one that has a bakery/grocery... and the food is yummy... it's even called Delicious Orchards. :P

We have so many to choose from for fruit - and usually between July and October there is something you can go pick. lol! Cherries and Strawberries are usually mid June. I haven't done strawberry picking with the boys, they would love that! I'll have to add that in for June! For veggies, they are earlier in the year... May, June and July.

O boy... I will not mention that game to my kids. The further you exploded the fruit, the further you got! LOL! :)

It's a Columbus Day tradition at my daughter's school for a bunch of the families to go to Michigan for the day to go apple picking. Other than that, we go berry picking (blackberries, raspberries and gooseberries) while we're in Michigan for the summer. Hmmmm... noticing the trend here... all of our picking is done in Michigan!

Ooohhh... and a family we know (again in Michigan) has a cherry orchard, so we sometimes go and pick the leftover cherries off of the trees after they've harvested them with the machines.
