Do you play any?

I started taking piano for the first time a couple years ago. I'm awful. But the teacher is my dear friend, so I still go. We chat for an hour, I ruin the song, and we move on. lol

I played the handbells for my church from 2nd through 12th grade. I could still play them now if I wanted to, but my current church does not have a bell choir. I also played the flute from 5th through 8th grades. While I still have my flute, that would take some practice to get back to remembering how to play.

Does it count if I own an acoustic guitar and DH owns an electric guitar that both of us WANT to know how to play?! :giggle

I actually was a band geek. I thought myself to play the alto saxophone (since my mom had one laying around) and I learned the trumpet when I was in grade 9. So you can see how my musical diversity was an assett to band. (Yes I'm justifying my geekiness! lol!) I also had played the piano and loved it but my parents didn't like traveling an hour for lessons.

I played piano off and on from 4th grade through high school. I was terrible. :giggle

I started playing the piano when I was five. My mom was really strict about it. I had a lot of success at early competitions when I was young so she was making me practice 2-3 hours a day when I was in elementary school. (typical Asian mom :) ) She had dreams of Julliard for me. When I was in high school I refused to do it anymore so I could spend time on sports teams and with my friends. I still play occasionally but I still think to this day my mom never got over me quitting.

I always wanted to learn to play the piano.

In junior high, I played the clarinet and I sucked at it but my folks thought I should at least learn an instrument to play. That lasted about 2 years and I was done!

I took piano lessons for about 4 years or so during elementary school but I wasn't very good. I've lost most of what I've learned. I played flute 7-9th grade, which I liked, but didn't want to commit the practice time to keep up with it. Plus I didn't have a ton of natural ability but I'm glad it taught me to read music and to appreciate it.

My family is generally very musical though, we all played something at some point - it was a requirement we either be in band or orchestra in junior high. My Dad can play by ear and still plays his saxophone sometimes. My older sister has her doctorate degree in clarinet performance is teaches at the college level. And my little sister is really, really good on the violin.

I took piano lesson on and off for about 7 years, but I'm still awful at it. My piano teacher didn't really care that I never practiced or learned anything, so I never progressed very far. I played flute and piccolo all the way through high school, but I haven't touched it much since and probably couldn't even remember how! I rock the guitar hero though. LOL!

Angie, I love that you just started taking piano lessons. I took lessons from kindergarten through 12th grade. I have a piano and occasionally play, but often get frustrated that I can't do as much as I used to. I would actually love to take lessons again.
