Pad Patter: 4/17 -Do you print your layouts?

I have printed Shutterfly books and single pages as gifts for friends and family but I really haven't printed any pages for myself yet. I love that I can print a copy for them and save a copy for my books. I mostly do two page spreads with the idea that the two page allows me to tell my whole story for that particular event, ect. but recently I've been doing more single pages. I have always thought I would print a shutterfly book when I had enough pages complete, however I have pages from last year and 10 years ago and now I have single and double pages. So.. I'm leaning towards a 12x12 album so I can print and reorder as necessary. Anyone have any different ideas that work for them? Do you scrap single or double pages? How do you put those in your albums? Do you put non matching pages next to each other? What albums do you like best. I'd prefer something less bulky. So complicated!

I have a modified Library of Memories system. I have 12 x 12 3 ring binders for me, my daughter and my son. I have a Places We Go 12 x 12, a People We Love 8 1/2 x 11 and a Things We Do 8 1/2 x 11. In the 12" ones, I have a total mixture of sizes of page protectors including divided ones. I have a few two page layouts but mostly single. I really don't mind that they don't "match". In the 8 1/2" there are also 8x8 layouts.

I also have a new pages album where all the newly printed pages go when they come in. Then those get placed into the right album when another order is placed from Persnickety.

I have done a few 8x8 Shutterfly albums for my Holiday Season Albums and my 2010 and 2011 year in reviews. Those I do try to pay attention to what looks good next to the other, one of them is strictly two page layouts that match.

As for albums I have a mixture of American Crafts and WRMK leather and fabric depending on the color selection and when there is a sale. I too wish the 3 ring weren't so bulky but gladly trade being able to move things around more easily than the smaller postbound which make me want to throw things should I have to open them up to change something.

Lots of people gather all their layouts and print them up in Shutterfly albums because they love the sleek look of photo-books!

I get mine printed at Scrapping Simply. :) Each kid has their own book, and we have a family one as well.

it's been a while since i printed. i've used scrapbooks to share, which i liked okay (but they print a border around all the pages, so all the edges have to be trimmed, which is a pain). i've also used the one that went out of busines... which is why it's been a while since i've printed.

I scrap chronologically (sort of - I will deviate now and then) so I usually order a book (shutterfly) when I've finished a 6-month span of layouts. That's usually about 80-100 layouts which might not sound like a lot for some of you, but it's been taking me FOREVER lately. I am working on the first half of 2008 right now if that tells you anything. HAHA.

i have never printed either, this just started off as a hobby,i vowed when i had gabbi id do her a scrap book and it never happened :(

I print once or twice a year, when Persnickety had a sale. I print them individually and put them in albums by year - and within each year I have different sections based on Stacy Julian's system. We just have one set of albums for now, I figure if my kids want copies I can always print more down the road. They are all young and at home now so we're good with just one set.

For you ladies who haven't tried it... upload a few just to try it, it is SO cool to see them in print! My family appreciates my pages MUCH more that way too.

i print at the end of the year as my albums are yearly and chronological. I use Blurb-they print books up to 400 pages :)

It's so interesting to read about the different approaches that everyone takes. Lots of good ideas. I do shutterfly books to document one occasion, etc. but I think I may have to try the 12x12 album approach for layouts if I ever want to see them in print! I have serious doubts I'll ever be organized enough to print a years worth in one album. I'm never finished with a year. I'm always adding and will need to rearrange.

I noticed a few don't print them at all. How do you go about sharing them? Do you like to go back and just browse them on the computer? I used this approach for my hubby's birthday this year. I created a scrapbook (20ish 8.5 x11 pages) but instead of printing the pages loaded them on a brand new iPad for him instead (don't get me started on how much of a pain that was without setting up his iPad with iTunes first because I wanted to let him do that!) Is it just me or does anyone else cause themselves heaps of trouble with their clever ideas! Needless to say he loved it. I asked if he also wanted them printed and he said no - he liked looking at them on the iPad where he could zoom etc. Hmmm.. Is that my answer? Perhaps I just need an iPad for myself to load them all on. ;-)

The only time I've ever printed is for my (now) yearly 5x7 recaps for relatives. I print up about 20 or so. I do have about 100 12x12 format images up at Persnickety, but omg, it would cost so much to get those printed all at once, and I'm *still* not quite done with that year. I'm thinking of just getting individual prints instead of waiting to finish the year up for a printed book. I have to get smarter about budgeting for the printing as well as the supplies!

Edited to add: I love Stacy's idea of a PL-like book with the 12x12s and different sizes interspersed with them. And aren't there monthly dividers now for PL? It would be perfect for organizing a year by the month, without necessarily needing to be on-the-nose chronological and OCD about it. I tend to get OCD about it, but I like that solution!

In the past, I have printed once or twice a year. This year, however, I've been printing once a month and putting my 2012 album together as I go. It's made a big difference in getting the book down to enjoy it - at least once a month!
