So, where do you come from? I love that we are all big fat mixes of cultures, nationalities and ancestries. I took my kids to a Native American Festival yesterday and it got me thinking about what is in my blood.

I know, that if we go back far enough, we are all actually related (Thank you Adam and Eve. Thank you, Noah) but more recently, what cultures to do you claim?

I'll just go back 2 generations...

On my father's side, my GM was 100% Cherokee Indian who married a Brit.

On my mother's side, my GF was from Austria... as in he came from there on a boat to Ellis Island as a boy. He married an "American Mutt" (which is totally what I am).

So fascinating. So much history.

Well, I am a mutt for sure. On my maternal side, I'm German, but my grandmother's grandmother was some form of Native American, we just don't know which. They were in Oklahoma, so I suppose that narrows it down to tribes from OK. In my mother's family, she was just known as a "squaw." On my paternal side, my grandmother was 100% Irish/English, and my grandfather was predominantly Alsatian (territory partially in Germany and partially in France.) So I guess you could say the biggest part of my ancestry pie chart would be German, but that would probably be one sliced up pie!

I descend from William Strother. The rest of my tree has been harder to track down, but what I find seems to mostly be English and Welsh. My husband's family has been in Denmark "forever", which I guess means, as long as anyone has cared to figure out.

I'm almost all English going back on both sides for generations & generations.

There are smidges of other Western European strains. The smidge I'm most proud of is that my great-great-great grandfather was an Irish author & activist who immigrated to the U.S. in the mid-1800s and regularly wrote for 'The Boston Globe' until his death in 1912.

I'm kind of like you Jen! I'm (apparently) 1/8th Cherokee Indian through my mother's father's side of the family (his mother was 100% but he was half ... not sure about his father's heritage as there are no details!). According to family tales my GF met my GM during the war while stationed in the UK prior to being shipped out to fight in Europe where he disappeared during combat after leaving my GM with a memento of him in the form of my Mother :) . While the rest of the family is English all the way back to William the Conqueror so they tell me (we even have a family shield and motto) but my kids are Aussie's where we are all one big melting pot :)

I'm another American Mutt. I have German, English and Scottish mostly though.

I'm 100% German. My great-grandparents on both sides were born in Germany and moved here. My dad's parents regularly spoke German and my dad actually wasn't taught English until he went to kindergarten.

I have Scottish and Dutch ancestors. But, I'm also related to one of the 'witches' from the Salem trials (the name escapes me right now) and dh is related to John Muir, the explorer.

My parents were both adopted, so really I have no clue.

All I really know is that my maternal grandfather was straight from Ireland.

I want to get one of those DNA tests done, just to satisfy my curiosity.

I am fascinated by ancestry and genealogy.

My paternal grandfather was a Scottish immigrant and my paternal grandmother was of Polish descent. My maternal side is a blend of English, Welsh (grandfather) and German (grandmother).
