Pad Patter: 3/18 - Laundry

I don't think my husband knows where I keep the washer.

It was quite an adjustment. He's better at laundry than I am, too. I hate admitting that. I'm in the camp that does sporadic loads of laundry, often forgetting to move it to the dryer until the next day. Then leaving it in a basket until half the items have been worn again. He does it and gets it all put away.

I hate doing laundry. Hate it.

Maybe I'd like it more if DH could (1) empty pockets of all change, pens, papers, receipts, bus passes, etc and (2) stop spilling acid on his clothes at work and then forgetting to tell me so I wash his acid-that-burns-through-clothes stuff in with my clothes.:furiousThat drives me nuts. Like, totally cray cray.

I do probably 9 loads on the weekend and 3 to 5 during the week (depends how messy people are). My 1yo DS creates messes on his clothes as well as mine (cuz he's a food thrower). As far as folding...I let it pile up and then I do a massive folding marathon while watching TV at night. We have a king size bed so that's a load of sheets right there, then 2 loads of towels, and another load of sheets (DD's and DS's sheets). Then there's a load of reds/pinks, 2 of darks, and 1 white, and 1 undies and PJs. Then there's the kitchen towels. Hopefully when the kids are older they'll both help out with laundry, both in keeping down the amount of messy stuff (like, they won't have to wear 4 different outfits in a day lol) and in actually doing the laundry.
When we move (which should be some time within a year), I've already told DH that I want one of those big honking machines that holds a ton of laundry. Then I can pare down our loads to ONE each of towels, sheets, and darks. That'll save me time right there.

forgot to mention, our washer/dryer are outside in the garage. So, since it's not in the house and we live in Gulf Coast Texas, it gets to be about 120 degrees out there (it's about 90 today). I don't fold right away--I start sweating just moving my stuff to the drying rack! So my other big Wish List item for a house is an actual laundry room. You know, inside the house, where it's A/Ced and heated?!

My hubby does our laundry....that way I can blame him if something shrinks!!

The boys' laundry is done twice a week....I fold and put away b/c he just piles it up in the family room
Our laundry is done twice a week....it hangs to dry...we don't dry any of our clothes except underwear/socks

I'm pretty good about washing every day and sorting stuff into baskets. The baskets only make it into drawers about twice a week though. We don't have a ton of clothes, so I have to wash a lot! I have to wash diapers twice a week too and that's an all day affair usually. Since there's no clean clothes coming out, that's when I usually put away the other stuff.

I do mine, Eric does his, and we share responsibility on the kids' clothes. They are old enough to (mostly) fold and put it away but they aren't tall enough to reach the washer or dryer or deal with that part so I still do it for them. Up until about a year ago the boys shared a room and most of their clothes but now they have their own rooms and their own clothes and Jake has moved into being a size bigger than Boden so it's easier to sort and deal with it.

I don't let it pile up much. I mean we each have a load of laundry at a time. I never let it get to where one person has more than one load of laundry to wash. I hate, HATE putting laundry away but I do try to stay on top of it b/c the only thing i hate more than putting laundry away is ironing. :)

Meh. Laundry and I don't get along very well. I don't mind the process of doing laundry...the sorting, the actual washing/drying..but I do loathe folding it. Loathe.loathe.loathe. I do a little every day in an attempt to avoid the overwhelming Loathey feeling I have every time a load comes out of the dryer. LOL. If I did everything at once I think I'd succumb to "leave it all in the basket" paralysis.

I have to admit to loving the aroma from the dryer. I got those little balls (for the washer) I think Downey? and it smells so good, I am overdosing on washing sheets and blankets! Lasts for weeks!!

The boys do their own, so that tends to pile up...and I have to sometimes switch their loads to get them moving!

I stay on top of the other laundry. It goes into a basket, I fold it right away, and put it away when I go upstairs. My dh comes home friday evening and I try to get started on his right away. I don't want to wait till the last minute before he drives back to work on Sunday.
