I admit I totally freaked at the happiness that was shown on Facebook and other places (like in stores) of people that are excited about Daylight Savings Time. I heard this phrase....ooooooh yeah more hours in the day! I so need that?:dizzy

I hate it! I spend 7 months searching for that extra hour and try to get the kids to adjust for the next 12 weeks of school.
Now that I growled and grumbled, wanna join my growl?

I like it :) I like it staying lighter longer. It is like jet lag Anne... another day and it will be "normal" again for you :)

I do believe this is the first thing we aren't alike in! lol I was beginning to think we were Siamese twins! lol

The amount of daylight is the same, though. It's just that the clock says something different when it's light out. Nothing is actually gained. I'm with Anne. Thumbs down to DST. It's also such a headache how everyone does it at different times, or not at all, and no one remembers to write "EDT" instead of "EST". Except Anne, because she rocks that way.

I don't know about Anne, but I take more than a day to adjust to jet lag as well!

I wish they'd just leave it on summertime. Doesn't work out for everyone I know, but it'd suit me and my latitude :). I like the lighter evenings but I'm not overly keen on the changing. Bothered me more when my kids were younger but they don't really bat an eyelid. Still got a few weeks until ours changes.

that can make me smile all day! I rock that way! woo hoo and secret? I never knew there was a EDT? I have always wrote EST and just yesterday our Norton (Krista) sister Polly schooled me in the standard/daylight acronym! bhahhaha...but I rock it now!

this morning STUNK trying to get everyone up and going (me included!) - it is just all around harder for the next few weeks, as the kids leave for school in the dark and have to get ready for bed while it is still light outside. dh is super outdoorsy, so he will be out on his hunting land or in the yard until it is time for the kids to get in bed before he remembers to come eat dinner. (here - do you need cheese with my whine? lol)

I do love the long afternoons once it gets "settled in", but this week - not so much. ;)

We got lucky this year and have school off. My kids get to sleep in and slowly adjust to the time change. I've always been able to adjust well so it doesn't bother me to much. Now when I lived in northern US it was nice to have DST because the sunlight was longer. At some points during the winter the sun would set as early as four. That extra hour of sunlight tacked on to the end of the day was nice.

Oh, I'm right there with you, Anne! I feel awful for a couple of weeks with both the spring and fall time changes. And I hate that it starts earlier in the year than it used to. The kids are fortunately on their spring break this week, but I'm probably going to have to start driving DD down to her bus stop again, because I don't want her walking the 3 blocks and standing and waiting in the dark. I did it all winter, and had just gotten used to being able to send her out the door on her merry way. :p

i love having more light at the end of my day. i find it depressing to be in darkness at 5pm in winter. ugh. so this time of year, when the winter is just about over and the clock shifts to give a tad more daylight at the end of my day ... i am in heaven! we have so much running around and after school activities, it is really nice not driving all over in the dark. in the morning it is dark when we get up, but by the time the bus is due to arrive it is pretty light out. so it works well for us.

but this thread is great ... love reading all the different reasons it works or doesn't work for everyone. i especially sympathize with those with young children, while i always looked forward to DST ... having little ones with their routines & bed times messed up was a pain.

I hate hate hate the time change. It makes everyone in my house tired and grumpy.

Now that I'm past the initial shock of the early morning, I'm okay with it. It's nice to still be light out at 6:00, and I like the darker mornings. That morning sunlight was waking me up way too early. :)

I do like the extra sunshine when I've been driving home from work this week. But I'm so tired from the change.

Last night I was looking at my DVD player clock while I was working on some stuff and then noticed it was 12:30 so I should probably let the dog out and go upstairs. Well, then I realized I never changed that clock!

It really doesn't bother me that much. I don't like that it's so dark out in the morning when I get up, but I like that it's still light out later in the evening… especially since it's starting to get warm enough for my kids to play outside more. However, all that said… I lived in Arizona for a while and they don't do DST. I liked not having to worry with the clocks (although it confused the heck out of my parents back east), but I didn't like that it was so bright out so early in the mornings (like 5am early).

Honestly, it really rejuvenates me. In the winter when it's dark at 5pm, all I want to do is lay down and sleep. As long as it's daylight out, I have all the energy in the world and get so much more done!! And my mood improves tremendously. It's always dark in the morning when I get up, no matter what time we are on, so that doesn't bother me either.

It didn't affect us this year.

The only reason I don't like it is because then DD wants to play outside every night before/after dinner which means *I* have to go outside and watch her. It also means the little neighborhood kids are knocking on my door and/or coming in and out of the house which makes DH's crazy dog bark every 20 minutes.

But I'm old and crotchety like that. :whistle

We're about to lose daylight savings here, very sad about that - just love having the extra daylight at the end of the day.

ps - someone in australia was trying to blame climate change on daylight saving - all that 'extra sunshine' was drying out the planet apparently - I'm hoping it was just a prank letter to the editor...
