When I was 14, every two weeks on Thursday morning I would peddle my faithful Bridgestone 3 speed bike to a house about 30 minutes away. There was a key under the mat.
I would go to the back room and open the windows and clean a poker room.
It stunk so bad, cigarettes, alcohol and yuck! I put the table away, restacked chips, put away and made the room tidy. Then cleaned both bathrooms.
Lock the door on way home, and that night my mom would give me $20!!!
from a man in her office. lol never met him!

Did you lose a week, Anne? It's not the 4th! :giggle
I guess it depends how you define strange, but probably the most interesting job I've had was reading essays for standardized tests. Unfortunately, I had to sign a non-disclosure so I'm not allowed to share any of the crazy things those kids wrote, but wow. lol I kinda miss that job.

yes! I did lose a week and part of my brain!!

hmmm - not TOO strange, but when I was in college I worked at a University Animal & Dairy Science facility. Part of my job was to name the cows (on the computer) as they were born each spring for their pedigrees. There were some springs dozens and dozens of calves and sometimes I would get on a tangent for the names (one bunch was Plaid, Argyle, Stripe, Dot...) (I only chose one part of their name - the rest was pedigreed from the parent cows)

I don't think I've ever had a strange job? My 1st ever job was washing the local florists van on a Saturday morning when I was about 14/15 that then led into me helping out on busy days like Mother's Day and valentines making up bouquets of flowers! Thinking about it further as I write, I used to help ribbon up the wreaths for funeral flowers when they were busy too, I suppose some people would consider that strange? Especially since they used to deliver them to our house and me and mum would have them dotted around the living room as we finished them up until they came to collect them the next day.

LOL Anne!

I don't think I've had any especially weird jobs, but some of the tasks involved were weird. I was a test engineer for Ericsson, which involved testing switching equipment at phone company offices. On the one day that DH stopped by a job site I was testing conference calling devices, so he sat and watched me calling myself. LOL

And he thinks what I do now is weird. He loves to tell everyone that I scan bubble wrap. :giggle

Love the scan bubble wrap!

My weirdest job most consider picking tobacco when I was 14. Yep, you have to pick tobacco leaves off the plants, then they cure in a barn. There's a weird contraption that you ride on. You only pick the bottom leaves, because that's what's ready. So, then you end up going back to the same field over and over picking a little higher each time. And you start off wearing a rain coat because it's cold and wet, but finish in long sleeves and jeans sweating. And you end up covered in tar from the plant.

One summer when I was in college, I was interning at our local paper. I wrote a column that ran three times a week called Fix It. People wrote letters about problems and I'd try to help them. It was one of the best jobs I ever had because it really taught me how to be resourceful.

The weird part would happen when I worked my other job. I was putting myself through college so at nights and weekends I worked at a supermarket and people would recognize me from the paper. People would think I was working undercover doing a report on super markets.

The newspaper business if full of weirdos and weird stories everyday. That's why I love it! :)

No real strange jobs here but I did work in banking for 7 years before become chronically ill and I have all kinds of strange/hilarious/unbelievable stories from that job!! I could write a book... Anyway, the strangest encounter I ever had w/ someone was with a very high/drunk (very red eyes, twitchy, etc) noncustomer wanting to cash a check made out to a business (he said it was his company but we had no way to verify that since he was a noncustomer) and when I said we couldn't do that, he got very loud, very fast and started quoting banking laws that had nothing to do w/ this certain transaction and then even pulled out a tape recorder and said "I got you on tape!". I then pulled his recorder closer and leaned in and said, "That's fine, because I haven't done or said anything wrong!" and told him I would call the police if he didn't leave on his own in the next minute. Needless to say, he left and didn't come back.

Working in a bank can be crazy because it offers glimpses into many different lifestyles. Some coming in to cash a check from their husband for $10K and wanting it in $100 bills because they were going shopping for the day. Others coming in because they can't reconcile their statement and are off by only a few cents but to them it's super important.

Lorry, I had that job, too! I don't remember signing a non-disclosure, though, but maybe I did.

One of the kids' inventions still makes me laugh to this day...

When I was 17, I worked at a baseball card shop. For reals. I would split packs of cards and make full sets and I also worked the front counter. Looking back, I guess if you were a teenage boy, it would not have been too bad having a teenage girl wait on you at a card shop. Not a bad move on my employer I suppose.

Oh and I was also a TA in pharmacy school for a teacher whose class I was taking that fall. I was literally a TA for a class i was enrolled in. That's kind of weird too

No real strange job but the worst was at a florist for less than a week. The owner was evil & when I quit I never went back for a paycheck.

Not too many weird jobs, but when I was in my last year of college I signed up for odd jobs through the student employment office. People from that town would call in and ask for help with whatever they needed and then they'd pay cash. I raked leaves, did laundry and even painted varnish on a zillion pieces of wood for a fraternity house they were building. It was great because you only had to work when you were free and it was all pretty easy and paid cash! :)
