DH is thinking of getting a home phone (land line) again. Not gonna happen as we both have cell phones and I think we really don't need a phone just for the house.

Is there really a need for a house phone anymore?

We have a VOIP phone through Comcast so that we can call Canada. We use our cell phones for everything else.

We have one and it is so stupid. The only "people" that call it are telemarketers and survey takers. So dumb. I need to cancel it!

We are upgrading our cell phones next week and doing away with our home phone. We are the same as Kelley in that only people wanting money call our home phone. I would have cancelled it a long time ago but I didn't know until recently that you could have internet connection without a land line.

We haven't had one in 7 or 8 years. My mom had hers until very recently. My dad's always complaining about how much the phone costs and I told her to write down everyone who called for a week and see if she really needed it. It was literally a whole sheet of election calls, surveys, and bill collectors for my brother. Everyone important called or texted her cell phone or FB messaged her. So they cancelled it. I can't think of a good reason to have a land line, except maybe since my daughters are getting old enough to have friends call...but even then, it's probably cheaper just to get an extra $10 line on our cell phone plan.

We have a home phone, but no long distance on it. We have a security system that's tied to our phone line, plus we turn our cell phones off at night, and I didn't like not having access to a phone at night in case there was an emergency.

We didn't for awhile but got one again recently. Having little kids in the house with a babysitter all summer made me nervous. Our cell reception here is not totally reliable and I was too worried that we wouldn't be able to place a call in an emergency using our cell phones. So, we have a home phone but we don't have long distance.

We have VOIP through Comcast too. It's pretty much the same price to get just internet as it is to get internet and a phone, so we figured why not. Plus, I like to have the phone for 911 purposes too, just in case our phones are dead or not available or whatever.

I still have a land-line plus we both have mobiles (cells) because older family members just dont like ringing us on anything other than the land-line. Plus local friends are cheaper on the land-line soooo its staying for now :)

I hate ours SO MUCH. The only calls that come through on it are recruiters looking for my husband, telemarkers (despite being on the DNC list) and political nonsense. I just ignore it, I never even look to see who it is.

I still have a landline. I almost canceled it a few months ago but then it occurred to me that I really should have it in case of emergency. So instead I just had them switch me to the least expensive plan I could get and got rid of long distance. Now my landline bill is only like $10 plus tax.

We have a landline because it's bundled into our cable. I wanted it for N, but ever since he got his cell it never gets used. I should probably cancel it but it's only $20 a month and it's free long distance.
