With the new year just weeks away, I got to wondering what we'll start seeing on scrapbook pages. We've seen owls, trees, flair buttons, fabric swatches, etc in the past and this year it was banners.

What do you think will be the trend(s) in 2012?

Oh, good question! I have no idea. Ha Ha! Maybe we should list what we want to see so we can start a trend! I would love to see more brushes (alpha and graphics) and more messy stitches (real stitches). In addition to what elements will be popular, I'm curious to see what direction design and composition will go in!

I have now clue, lol, but can't wait to see. Some trends I love, some not so much.

Yes, to more stitches!

I'd like to see big photos make a comeback! I know a lot of us spend a lot of money on cameras, actions, lightroom presets. Let's show off those megapixels! :)

i am loving the tape right now, so hopefully more of that! I also like real stitching and other products that can give the true paper scrapbook look.

I personally, would like to see more shabby, vintage elements, like fabric swatches, brooches, aged/textured papers, crochet. We have several designers who rock that style here at The Pad! Heck...what don't those girls rock?!? :) I'd also like to see more stamped, hand painted alphas and word arts (ahem...CD) lol. I already use the heck out of stitches and make no plans to stop. I don't find myself drawn to any particular trend. I find the products and LO's I'm drawn to are the ones that showcase someone's own individual style. I really like an eclectic mix of products.

ditto! good one robin!

I'd love to see the "vintage" trend continue.

Don't forget the mushroom trend a couple years ago. Used to see random baby photos from the internet, extracted and sitting on mushrooms. over and over. I wonder what some of those people think about their photo albums from 2007/2008 and whether their kids ask them "why do you have page after page of these unrelated babies sitting on mushrooms, instead of pages of me?!?" :giggle

Yes! I do these anyway (I'm unstylish, like Trish)! :giggle But I would love to see more of these in other galleries, for the inspiration alone!

I'd like to see unique Date Elements make a comeback. I love picking up new date elements!

I'm considering adding an element type on each of my pages next year (at least the versions that I send to print). We've just gotten in to the Angry Birds at our house (we only picked up an iPad in November), so I'm considering hiding one of those cute funny angry birds on each page, as a fun little activity for the kids when they look through the album.

Does anyone else do this kind of thing for your intended audience?

i love to see a nod to project life-more journaling cards and element/kits that could be used for that. templates for it could be fun too, designers could put their own twist on it, of course.

I heard from one designer that if you want to know upcoming trends, start checking out interior design stuff and see what is trendy there... because it somehow makes the transition into scrapping.

I would love to see more numbers. I don't know why, but I have such a thing for numbers. And Pinterest has only fed that addiction. I'm still a big fan of woodgrain and vintage stuff too.

I also really like unique elements... I mean, I love flowers and buttons, but I can only use so many of those. A couple of my favorite kits that I always go back to and take elements from were Sahlin Studio/Jenn Barrette collabs. Those girls rocked the cool funky elements that were different and fun.

I think that anything "handmade" looking is going to be big...which I think goes hand in hand with the vintage shabby stuff.

Also Washi Tape...messy paint and sprays...journaling....I see real life scrapbooking being huge this year!

Handmade stuff, paint/ink sprays and splats, messy stitching, and I'm hoping for some bright colors. The Pantone color for 2012 is pretty bright so I hope trends follow that.

I love a mix of vintage and clean/modern myself. And I love using large photos, but haven't done it much lately!
