Our day usually goes like this:
Kids wake up and open Santa sacks.
Then we have breakfast of crepes with various fruits and toppings
We all open gifts
Lunch is seafood if we are at home or roast if we are with family
Afternoon spent drinking, playing with toys and calling family
This year, I have no idea what to expect as we will be in a muslim country and our stuff arrives on the 22nd.
Things are a bit changed up some for us this year... My Mom moved into a retirement community and no longer has the space to have our family gatherings(50+ of us). My husband and I bought my Mom's home when she moved, so we offered up to have Christmas at our home. So, this year will go like this.
Daughter wakes up(way too early!)
We open our gifts.
Then we will prep for all the family to arrive.
Eat
Open gifts
And then relaxing, more eating, drinking and enjoying the family.
Yeah!
It will be just DH and me this year. Not sure yet if we will open gifts on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning - it depends how tired we are after mass. On Christmas morning, we have homemade croissants. Then Christmas lunch - some kind of meat I think. When we're with my family we have all the fabulous appetizers my grandma makes, including her pate.
Since we open gifts on Christmas Eve, DH and I will have our parents over Christmas morning for a brunch. Then DH & I head out of town for a couple of days just to enjoy the time together to rest & relax.
Kids wake us up way to early to see what Santa has brought. We then open all gifts, and head to my in-laws for brunch. Later in the afternoon we go to a movie and then for dinner at whatever restaurant that we can find that's open. Pretty much tradition!
Usually we wake up way too early and the kids open their stockings and gifts from Santa. Then we make a huge breakfast and open the rest of the gifts. We spend the rest of the day just relaxing and playing with the kids and all their new stuff. Then we do a late lunch/early dinner that is all appetizers and snacky food (I make a big dinner on Christmas Eve).
This year we'll actually be in our hometown for Christmas (YAY!). We'll be spending Christmas Eve with my family and Christmas Day with my husband's. Not sure exactly what is going on yet, except my family's big Christmas Eve party...but I'm just happy to be spending it with our families.
I am really excited abt our lowkey Christmas this year.
We won't get my stepson until the 26th, so we'll get up at our regular time Christmas morning (DD usually gets up between 8-8:30 am). I'll try to keep her upstairs a little longer so DH can sleep in a little! My ILs will come over to see DD open gifts. I'll make an egg casserole or something (and we'll have to have a piece of Jesus' birthday cake). We're having Christmas with DH's family on the 26th, so we'll shoo the ILs home, and I fully intend on the three of us staying in our new Christmas jammies all day and hanging out and just enjoying being home together.
I'm really looking forward to having Christmas morning at our home for the very first time...usually we're at the grandparents. So I'm sure the kids will wake up super early, we'll open gifts and then go to church! I'm looking forward to it being really relaxed this year!
Our routine changes from year to year depending on whether or not we're traveling. This year we'll be home for Christmas Day so we'll let the kids open their stockings in the morning, then go to church, have lunch with family, then open gifts. We're leaving the next day to be with the rest of our family for the week.
I usually spend Christmas Eve with my Dad and my brother's family. And then I meet up with my mom and sister for dessert with family friends. On Christmas morning, my aunt and grandmother come over for breakfast and then we go back to my brother's house for Christmas dinner. On Christmas night, I usually go hangout with my friends, if I'm not too exhausted!
Kids wake up and open Santa goodies.
Then we have breakfast = making Wife Saver, this year
We all open gifts
Lunch is snack food - crackers, appetizer type stuff...
Supper - turkey
Afternoon spent watching tv, playing with toys and calling family
