Is there something you always wanted to learn or do as a child but were never able to?

I wanted to learn piano, all because of an old commercial from the 70s.

Witness its full beauty here:

I did take lessons for a year with the kids about 5 years ago, but I am too old to learn or something. I was able to get to a beginner version of Fur Elise, though. My daughter played it in the recital one year to make me happy. :heartlove

I love that song! I actually took piano lessons as a kid and that's one song I did learn to play. I really wish I had stuck with that longer. I can't play much anymore.

I really wish that I could speak a different language... I love to learn either Spanish or French!

I'd also love to learn how to play the piano. There's a Yamaha music school about 30 mins from where I live. The only thing that is holding me back is the cost of owning a piano.

LOL It cracks me up that the commercial made you want to play piano. I took piano lessons on and off from about 4th grade through high school. I started because my best friend could play. I was terrible. :p

I'd love to learn how to crochet. I had my mom show me the basics last time we visited (July), but I haven't touched it since.

I've always wanted to know how to properly sing. I never had any dreams of being a famous singer. I just want to be good enough to be a worship leader at church. :)

I got involved with instruments instead. I played flute from 5th - 8th grade and handbells from 2nd - 12th grade.

LOL!!! That commercial is great. Do you remember McDonald's Fur Elise commercial?

I always wished I had piano lessons as a kid, too! I had a cousin who played piano who my grandmother was always comparing me to. I also wish I would have stayed in dance class longer, especially tap. I quit when I started high school because I had classes on Fridays!

We bought an (ugly) used piano from a guitar builder who was going out of business (they had it there for 'jam sessions' with the custom guitars they built) for $125. Bargains are out there if you work hard to find them. LOL

I took piano off and on from Kindergarten through college. I still play a little here and there, but not practicing really does inhibit you from learning and getting better. I learned that the hard way. ;)

There are a ton of things that I still want to learn how to do. I want to learn to play the guitar, I want to learn Italian and sign language, I want to learn to knit and crochet, I want to learn to use a potter's wheel… just to name a few. LOL!

just as you mentioned being too old to learn something new, i wish i had tried to learn spanish when i was younger. even by high school i felt like i was too late in the game to retain an entire new language!

Oh my - both those commercials are hilarious! :)

For me, I did play piano - took lessons til my Senior year but once I went to college I didn't have time to practice anymore and all but lost the talent now. I was never one of those people who it came naturally too, though. My husband is someone who can hear a song once and then sit down and pound it out. NOT me! I have to see the notes, play them through many times, and even then I probably still mess up. So, I leave the piano playing to him now. I guess if there was one thing I still would like to learn, it would be to play the violin. But that's a long shot and probably won't happen due to cost/illness. Maybe someday...

Those commercials are too funny. I think I remember the first one but not the second. I wanted to play piano -- but that was in jr, high. my best friend used to play Fur Elise and I loved it so she would try and show me some -- ugh. I just couldn't get the hang of piano even when I took a class in college. My right and left hand just can't be playing too different things! way too confusing. LOL

When I was a child, though, I wanted to learn guitar. My fingers didn't like that idea though!! Ouch!! I also wanted to learn drums. And gymnastics. Oh and to be a rollerskater, like ice skating but on roller skates -- they had lessons at my local rink -- it was the 70's don't judge! ;)

Fly a plane! I am petrified of heights but find the idea of flying a plane exciting! That is on my bucket list cause my fear so far is winning out. No lessons for me...yet. LOL!

My husband is a private pilot and I won't even get in that plane with him. Those tiny ones you learn on / fly in alone are SCARY. lol

I learned the basics of sewing in school but wished I had pursued it. I don't have the time or patience now to learn but I am so envious of others that can create their own patterns and sew them. My grandmother was a tailor for years and could sew anything.

LOL that McDonald's commercial!
yes, that commercial!! we may have just witnessed the origination of 'bribe your kid with mcdonald's to get them to do what you want'... now a common parenting practice in America *shakes head*

sorry, thread hijack there.
getting back on track...

i want to learn the guitar. i have an obsession... OBSESSION (i didn't think my first time writing obsession was strong enough) with strong guitar songs (and good lyrics). all of my faves seem to be great at guitar above anything else. but i wouldn't even know where to start.

also, when i was younger, i wanted to learn french. i was in french for 2 days in high school, but the french class was super full, and the spanish class was super empty... they asked me to switch. now i know spanish instead. *shrug*

I always wanted to learn how to play the piano...or any instrument really at this point. But the piano was my first love. As a kid, I'd scour the want ads looking for pianos in an attempt to get my mom to buy one (which we couldn't afford no matter what). As an adult, I bought my first home with a piano in it. My kids learned to play, but I never did. We had moved the piano to our new home where it sat for years. A few months ago I gifted it to a young struggling family so their kids can learn like I wanted to. It was the best decision I've ever made. I knew I'd not sit down at it and learn, not with everything else I'm trying to do.

I also wanted to learn how to ride a unicycle. Don't think that's going to happen either. :)

i always wanted to learn do draw. I used to be able to do calligraphy really well, but my hand seems to only be able to draw letters, not pictures.

Sewing. I even have a machine. I need to take a class or something. I say that every year it will be my new year resolution!
