Do you get yours done? Do they grow nicely or are they a mess?

I just got my acrylics taken off after YEARS because I can't have them for the culinary classes I start in January (and I needed my real ones to have time to grow out from the damage).

It's so sad and pathetic. The struggle is real. :giggle

mine are pretty bad. I do my toes but hardly ever paint my fingernails because it just doesn't last and seems like a hassle to maintain. Maybe one day when the kids are grown and I'm a lady of leisure...:giggle

I have LCN gel nails - they're light cured and I fill them about every 4 weeks. I've never broken one, so .. they're crazy strong. i like that they go on as a french manicure (white gel + clear gel) so I can either paint them or not. When I take my polish off I still have the french manicure. Plus I can use acetone on them.

I used to have long nails, always manicured but gave that up when I started paper scrapping b/c I would get my hands/nails full of ink and paint. I then started keeping the nails shorter and using a clear polish. When I switched to digi I was so used to having short nails with no polish or clear that I just continued on that way. So, short nails, no polish for me now. I'll paint my toes in the summer though b/c it's so much prettier with flipflops and sandals.

Whaa? Is this something new? I've never heard of LCN gel nails... sounds intriguing... :yup

i just don't care enough to worry about them. when one breaks, i cut them all to be the same length. if i were to get them done i'd do the gel nail thing ... regular manicures don't last more than a day for me.

I used to have acrylics, back in the day, and I loved them. But now I'm lazy and have no money. LOL. Or I should say that any money I do have goes towards scrapping/crafty stuff. My nails are medium length at the moment. I just found out about Jamberry nails, which are nice because I'm horrible at painting my nails. And they seem to strengthen them, there is nothing toxic in them, and they last for like two weeks without problems.

My manicurist friend recommended some 7 day polish today. It is just 2 coats of polish plus a top coat, no light needed, supposedly lasts a week. We'll see. I now have short stupid BLUE nails. Haha

They're not new, but they're not really common. I guess the supplies are expensive? There's only one show in town for me, with three women. But they've been using the product for 10 years.

I want to try that out, Angie.
I read some reviews of this polish by Sally Hansen at the beginning of the school year and bought some and used it a couple of times and always got really nice compliments on my nails.

I love to have painted nails. And I am a fortunate one that my own nails grow pretty strongly and nicely, so i have never wanted acrylics or anything. My problem is that I am apparently hard on my manicures and they don't last very long. But I like to have pretty nails. The Sally Hansen stuff I used didn't hold up to the 14 days as promised, but it gave me usually almost a week.

my toes are always painted (just at home - the kids like having me paint theirs as well - DS has his own blue polish) but i probably only do my fingernails once or twice a year - again too much maintenance and i try to keep them short anyway (seems cleaner to me) plus i can't stand typing with long nails - i remmeber working with a woman and i could hear her nails 'clacking' on the keyboard from the next room - her fingers never even hit the keys, she typed with her nails.... makes me shudder thinking about it

Mine are horrible. My fingernails do not grow at all. They break, bend, tear....you name it! They are the weakest nails ever!

My toes are always painted but just by me!!

So far so good. This is day 3, and I beat the crap out of my nails all weekend, including doing yard work!

I'm going to try that kind, too, Becky! Starting in January, I can't have anything on my nails on Tuesdays for cooking classes, so a week is perfectly fine. :)

I used to have long nice nails - years ago I broke two of them off and decided to have acrylic put on - and from there I kept up with having them filled for years and years and years. My real nails became so thin that I couldn't stand to go without something on them. A few years ago I switched to Gelish - (based coat - color and top coat - all baked on with a light) and it is chip proof. The color grows OUT before it actually comes off. Getting it taken off is a pain because it each nail has to be soaked in acetone - and then the layers have to be filed away. Just last week though, I had a terrible allergic reaction - the tips of my fingers turned bright red and they itched and throbbed something terrible. So two days after getting them done, I took the Gelish off. My fingers feel better, but are still really red and tender. I am hoping I can take care of them and not spend the time or money going to a shop to get them done ---- we'll see. They are medium length and since I've stopped using acrylic are stronger - not great, but much better!
As for toes - I keep them painted and get pedis throughout the summer months, but once winter rolls around I could care less!!

So when my nails are long they are very pretty. But since I started working as an xray technologist and have to wash my hands every 5 seconds it's difficult to maintain long nails. I still keep them longish but need to cut them when the middle ones start to bend because of transferring patients. As for polish it's about the same. It doesn't last anymore. I've never tried acrylic mainly because I can't be bothered with the hassle. I also have done the gel polish with the LED light and was quite happy with the results but again, my nails grow super fast. I long the invention of the at home gel polishes. They seem to last way longer than regular. I've also just tried the regular polish with the gel polish top coat and find that works super well. I did my nails Friday night and they are still looking good!
