Pad Patter 11/16: What's On The Menu?

Do you have a traditional Thanksgiving menu? We do. I've been eating the exact same things since 1980! We're doing dinner at our house this year, and I was thinking of adding something new to the usual line-up. What's on your menu this year? Maybe you can inspire me to mix it up a little!

Our usual menu:
Turkey of course
Brisket
Cornbread Dressing
Dirty Rice (a cajun thing)
Sweet Potato Casserole
Green Bean Casserole
Roasted Veggies
Fruit Salad
And an assortment of desserts and pies (but always a big ole' pecan pie!)

We have the same exact menu every year! It's so boring LOL! But if you try to change things up, someone in the family complains. My mom has everyone over - up to 30 people - and we serve turkey, stuffing, some overcooked veggies, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, turnips (which no one eats!), green bean casserole and cranberry sauce from a can. Desserts are much better - cheesecake, my aunt's apple pie and assorted other goodies!

I usually work on Thanksgiving - which I never minded because my family eats early and the food at work is better! - but I think I'll be off this year. So I'm hoping to make some better side dishes along with pumpkin spice cupcakes.

Turkey, dressing, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, Mashed potatoes, corn, rolls, pie...I love how my Mom cooks Thanksgiving but this year will be with my husband's family. They have similar selections but are not cooked like my Mom. lol

We're having:

Turkey
Dressing
*smashed* potatoes
Green Beans
Sweet 'Tater Casserole
Rolls
and plenty of desserts! YUM-O!

Turkey
Dressing (and I make a triple batch and cook it in the crockpot with extra turkey legs on top of it for flavor)
Mashed Potatoes & gravy
Sweet Potato Casserole
Spinach (fresh, of course)
Cranberry Sauce
Fresh Brioche
Pumpkin Pie

Those are the basics, and then I always throw in an extra dish or 2 that strikes my fancy.

This year will be the first year since we left the US that we will not be doing Thanksgiving :(
With DH away and packing up to move, it's just not going to happen this year... I might be able to talk some friends into coming over for a drink though, that would be nice.

This will be our first Thanksgiving gluten free. Not everyone in the family is, so it' going to be a bit of a challenge, I think, to make things that we can eat, but that everyone will like. I'd love to hear any ideas from other GF ers.
