What have you given/received as a handmade gift? What has gone over well? What was a dud? What have you received and loved?

It's time to think about Christmas, my friends. :giggle

The only things I've ever 'made' were scrapbooks/layouts. I have no eye-hand coordination, so actual crafty things are not something I do.

I am planning on doing Christmas organizational binders this year for Christmas; I think it's a rad idea, but who knows if my sister and mom will. You never know with my sister whether she'll be offended by your supposed implication in a gift e.g. me giving her an organizational binder 'obviously' means that I think she's disorganized, too dumb to know how to decorate her own house, etc.

Last year we made cinnamon bun popcorn for all the neighbors at Christmas and it was a big hit. This year, my DH is brewing a special batch of holiday beer and we will bottle it up for our neighbors. I will also make the popcorn again, since it was so good!

My sister makes handmade soaps and lotions and I love to receive those as gifts.

I made photo coasters one year for my MIL. I purchased ceramic tiles and put a photo of each of the kids with their lil ones and then used decoupage and polyurethane to seal them. She still has them located around the living room for people to look at and put their drinks on them.

We also make Rum Balls for the ladies at the package store, our postman, a few others. I was worried about my postman and Rum Balls but he loves them and a couple of years ago when I made cookies....he actually asked if I was going to make the Rum Balls again.

My sister sneeringly calls me "Crafty McCrafterson" so I guess it goes without saying that I have made tons and tons of handmade things (obviously not for her anymore since she's high maintenance and wants things like perfume at $150 a bottle). Lots of jewelry, body scrubs, fancy popcorn or oils, toys, home decor stuff, framed art, coasters, jams, ice cream toppings, etc.

One of my favorites was last year... I made my mom some fancy body scrub stuff that had coffee, raw sugar, oil and stuff. It smelled sooooo good. She used it one morning before work and didn't get it completely rinsed off, and had some brown splotches in spots. How was I supposed to know she would use it on her face and have it behind her ear? LOL.

I crocheted an afghan for Peppermint's wedding back in 2010.

After I came home from Wisconsin, she sent me this pic of her cat Mo enjoying it! :)

I've given other handmade gifts... recipe books, crocheted coasters, knitted scarves, handmade organic vegan soaps, etc.

How did you make the coasters?
